I like discover card, when I do my balance transfers. It is the only bank only charged one time for the service fee, and one rate for the balance transfers, unlike providian has 3 different fees each month.
I enjoy discover card online webpage, the response time from them was always promotely! and polite! Never had a problem with them online. Offline is a different story. |

Discover has a complicated reward formula and you have to understand it to see if it suits you and the way you use the card.
Let's start with the cash rebate formula.
This is how the Discover cash rebate works : For the first $1,500 in annual spending, you earn 0.25% cash rebates. For the next $1,500 in annual spending, you earn 0.5% in annual spending. For spending above $3,000, you earn 1% cash rebates.
How does this cash rebate formula compare to other cash back credit cards ? Not very good. Here's why...
The most basic cash rebate credit card allows you to earn 1% on all purchases - no tiers like discover. The better cash back credit cards like Citi DIvidend or Chase Freedom pays you 2% and 3% rebates respectively on supermarket, gasoline and drugstore purchases. The Blue Cash from American Express pays 5% rebates on supermarket, gasoline and drugstore purchases and 1.5% on all other purchases once your annual spending exceeds $6,500.
Hence, as a pure cash back card, there are better cards around.
However, Discover has got a couple of features that will appeal to some. For example, Discover pays 5% cash rebates when you make purchases with their "GETMORE merchant partners". These partners are rotated once every three months. For example, from January 2007 to March 2007, you can earn 5% cash rebates on travel items like airline tickets and hotels. Earning 5% cash back on these items is unheard off. However, the downside to this 5% cashback bonus is that the merchants rotate and if you do not intend to spend at these merchants during the promotion period, then the 5% rebates will be meaningless.
The other interesting feature that DIscover Card has is that you can exchange your cash rebates for more than their original value in gift certificates. At the moment, Discover has about 70 partners. If you exchange your cash rebates for certain partners, you can can even double the value (eg, turn $20 of cash rebate into a $40 gift card).
If you are the type that likes to get gift cards, then the Discover card will be a good card to get. If you just want to earn cash rebates, there are probably better cards than Discover. |

Discover is a good cash back card.
I get a Cashback Bonus of:
* .25% if the purchase is part of my first $1,500 in total annual purchases,
* .50% if the purchase is part of my second $1,500 in total annual purchases, and
* 1.0% if the purchase is part of my total purchases in excess of $3,000
So, you have to charge $3000 per year to get the full 1% bonus. They also have special events where you can increase that to 5% for certain transactions with specific merchants.
What is also great is that you have a chance to double your bonus by trading in your dollars for gift certificates from certain participating companies. And there are lots of companies where you get more than dollar per dollar, too. If you don't want to do that they will credit your account, send you a check or deposit it right into your bank account.
I have this card, the Citibank Dividend card (gives me 1% from the first dollar, plus 5% on gas and grocery store purchases - but you can only get a $300 bonus per year) and the Costco American Express (Free Costoco membership, no American Express Fee, up to 2% cash back on Costco purchases). |

I like discover. I keep a discover and a visa. I like the cashback bonus with Discover. It never expires, so your savings continue to roll over the more you use the card. They also have a huge array of designs to choose from. The one drawback I've had with Discover is where it is accepted. That's why I carry a Visa as well. Discover is not nearly as accepted nationally as Visa is. |

pros= money
cons= not yours
All credit cards are the same, the only thing that makes one better than another is the interest you pay on it. The question is whether or not you will make timely payments every month...if you know you are responsible and will pay your bill on time then don't worry what credit card you get,,,but if this is your first one stick to a big name like discover, american express, mastercard or visa. Remember that a credit card can cause a lot of problems if you are not wise with it, if you don't need DON'T GET ONE,,,if you really need money it's better to get a loan from your bank. One more piece of advice if you do get a credit card try to stick to one, and if must no more than two....also don't get a credit limit of more than YOU know you can handle!!!!!!! One last thing if you can get a credit card through your bank, that's the best.
