razonje | Do Collections/Charge-Offs really just simply fall off a credit report in 7 years? |
I have done a lot of internet browsing and reading on the subject and it seems that half say yes, and half say no. I am looking for an official answer on the topic. Per the Fair Credit Reporting Act derogatory accounts show for 7-years from the date of first delinquency which works out to 7-years and 180-days.
Any account that shows for longer then this can be disputed and will be removed. |

OMG....some of these answers
it will come off your credit report from the 7 yr mark of the last date of activity
**Spifiman is absolutely correct** |

Spifiman knows his subject matter. The Problems MAY just disappear, but my experience is that it often takes vigilance and action on your part. It is good to check one free credit report every 4 months to find errors and fraud. They are not uncommon and have cost me thousands trying to repair.
The "last Activity" is important to note also. When I tried to buy a house, I found an $8.50 I did not owe, but they claimed they had been continuously contacting me at 12 year old abandon address. I did not get the mortgage even with letter of explanation to lender and in credit report. I HAD paid and I HAD returned item with no refund, but let it go. I thought I was being tolerant, generous, expedient . . . and it cost me a home.
I have been told, hard to believe, but should be made known if Truth: The Creditor's act of reporting the credit is "Activity" on the account. Don't take my word, but find out because they have all the fine print and loopholes. Also, GOOD credit vanishes in 7 years or less. They don't feel like reporting it. It cannot be retrieved and I wasted a bunch on that too. |

Yes after 7 years it should be off of your credit report.
There is a thing call (I think it's called ) "full factual" report that will show every trade line that you had no matter how long ago. Banks and such would only use this if you are looking for a very large loan. |

They will drop off 7 years and 180 days after they became delinquent. You should pay all your bills on time and do not apply for any new credit. Keep checking your credit report. Once they are off the credit reports then apply for mortgage. |

Go to Link #2 for specific limitations.
Good luck. Best thing is pay your debt and be done with it. |

no they wont. unless the agency stops reporting the collection to the credit bureaus |

They will actually be on your credit record forever, but lenders will not consider them when considering your credit worthiness after that period of time. |
