alyssa_687 | Do I get charged if I don't use my credit card in a while? |
I am with Capital One, and they suck. They find any way to screw me over and I'm very good about paying my bill on time and paying the full amount all at once. The only time I was ever late paying a bill was because I didn't know that it was due, and for some reason I didn't get the bill until after the due date. I am sick of Capital One, but I don't necessarily want to cancel my card just incase I need it sometime.
Will they charge me some kind of fee if I go a while without using my card? Additional Details I forgot to mention, another reason why I don't want to just cancel it is because every time I call them they put me on the phone with somebody I can barely understand and they always end up charging me for some other crap that they pull out of their butt |

I have not heard of an 'inactivity' fee on a credit card. But, just to be sure, give them a call (the phone number should be on the back of your card).
I hope that helps. |

If you are going to keep a card open just for emergencies, make sure it doesn't have an annual fee and make sure that they won't close the card after a certain period of inactivity.
If you don't like capital one, there are plenty of other banks out there that can give you a card. |

If you don't use the card, they are likely to close it due to inactivity. Many companies are closing inactive accounts after shorter periods.
If you do decide to cancel this card, do it via mail and request written verification that the account is closed and 0 balance.
It has been my personal experience that calling those 800 customer service numbers are a waste of my time. Send a letter usually takes care of problems or questions just as quickly. |

Just make sure they don't 'lower' your credit limit because of inactivity. I would watch out for that. THAT would lower your FICO score.
They shouldn't charge you an inactivity fee though. |

No. Almost all credit cards has no annual fee. If you don't like Capital One, don't use it, but don't cancel it either. For some reasons, your FICO score goes down if you cancel credit cards. |

Chances are pretty good you have an annual fee, which is applicable to nearly every account holder.
If you don't use your card there's the potential that you may get hit with an account maintenance charge. Best way to know for sure is ask them if this non-active fee applies to you.
It's also somewhere in the fine print card agreement you received when you opened the account.
Good luck! |

Well don't close your account cause your score will go down. Most banks close your account if you don't charge it for 6 months so do atleast one transaction within 6 months. |

Some companies have started charging for inactivity, or even cancel your card all together. Some lower your credit limit, some raise your interest rate regardless of your credit history. They figure that if you are not using it, they are not making any money so they will figure out a way to make money from you. Read all the fine-print in the material they give you with your statements. (Make sure you have a magnifying glass and have a law degree to understand it all.) Good luck. |

All 3 of mines do.
6.00, 11.00 and 8.00
No matter what each charges me a fee every month. I dont use them so I set up an automatic payment from my bank account every month to over these fees. |
