Yes. You don't want someone else finding it if you lose it and then forging your name, do you? |

If you prefer, you can write "see ID" |

I NEVER sign the backs of my cards with my signature. Instead, one the ones that do not have my photo on the front of them, I write " check photo ID to name on card" My husband had his identity stolen about 2 years ago and this was the advice we were given by the cops and our bank to do with the credit cards. Your signature is not required and if you write "check photo ID" they should do it. This way, if someone has your card, their ID will not match. |

tell you the truth, by signing the back of your credit card is THE MOST STUPIDEST thing you can do !.. NEVER SIGN YOUR CREDIT CARD but instead write "Please ask for ID" or "See ID' Let say that you lose your card and someone attempt to use it. The salesperson will evetually look at the back of your card and he/she will automatically read out "Ask for ID' or whatever is on the back of your card. Best way to prevent un-authorize uses- Never sign your credit card ! |

The back of the credit card indicates that the card is not valid unless is signed but it is generally considered as a security risk by many. Insiders in retail industry have many stories which confirm this stark reality. There are many issues with signing on the back. It can be copied and used for making fraudy transactions. A better alternative is to write "Ask for picture ID" in that place. When you do this always keep a driver's licence or a photo ID with you. The clerk will ask for that ID when he sees this written at the back of of your card. This will make the transaction a bit longer since the clerk will verify your particular with the Photo ID or driver's licence but take my word for it..It is the safest method. And safety counts for more visit http://www.card-gallery.com ....Happy shopping..:) |

i believe it is best to sign the card or at the very least, if more more comfortable, write on the back - "see photo ID". then when signing for something get out ur licence or photo ID out. |

You have to. If you don't, make sure you don't lose it and end up in the hands of really bad people. |

yes. If you don't the store will ask you for ID. |

Theoretically, the credit card isn't useable until you sign it. But many stores will still take it. |

Actually, if you don't sign your card, you will not be able to use it for any "in-person" transactions. This does not apply for online purchases. |

Others posting saying "Yes" are correct.
But be careful about writing "SEE ID" on it. TECHNICALLY stores cannot accept a credit card that says those words on the back of the card (even though most do) ... but once at the Post Office they WOULD NOT take my card that said "SEE ID" and it was a real pain.
(P.S. They "verified" my signature at Walmart on Christmas Eve, and it looked nothing like the one on the back of the card ~ so I do not understand the system at all) |

Do NOT sign it. Take an extra fine sharpie and write 'ASK FOR PICTURE ID' on the back.
This will prevent people from forging. Unfortunately many times no one looks at the back of it.
As a safety thing, everyone should empty their wallet every 6 months or so and make copies of eveything in it, both the fronts and backs. Put this in a safe place. In case your wallet gets lost or stolen you now know what was in your wallet and all the information you need to report it all including numbers and phone numbers.
Now that you have the copy of the back of the card that says ask for id, you are automatically given a bit more protecction, especially if the card is used in a store with a clerk. A person who finds it will hesitate to use it as well. |

No, but if you choose not to, I would write SEE ID in big letters all across that space so that if it gets lost or stolen, no one can sign your name in that space. Also, that would make a cashier look at your id to match the card to you. |

You don't have to, but you should be asked to show your id everytime you use your card. |

i have gotten away with a few charges without signing it but eventually you sould sign it as i guess its for your own protection. |

your choice.
1/2 the stores will ask for ID and the other half won't
you can sign it "ask for ID" and still 25% of the stores will notask for it.
When gas stations went to pay outside verification of credit cards were no longer required by most stores. since pay at the pump does not get verified and the scan your own card inside the store does not always get verified cashiers do not need to do it either |

You have to sign it to protect yourself. To avoid someone else use your card. To let the store clerks to verify the signature.
If you don't sign the card and lose it, whoever got the card could sign the back and use it. You would be held responsible for all charges. |
