We do now, because bad debt was creeping up and that hits the dividends that members might get and can even result in losses or the closure/takeover of the CU
However, the information is limited as the Reference agencies require information on members before giving info back and some board members are unhappy at giving full details to them. In that case all that is exchanged is bad debt information.
We have links with debt advice groups and will refer members to them if we think there is a problem, because more debt may not be the solution.
Even with a poor credit history you may get a loan depending on what your situation is at the time and as long as you are honest, both with the credit union and yourself.
If you are on benefits then some CUs can give loans automatically, but you risk deductions from your benefits if you fail to pay.

Once you are a member and have establish and regular savings relationship, alot of times, they are more lenient than say a regular bank. Because as a credit union member you are a partial owner of the bank. |
