lisa r | Do unpaid medical bills affect my fica score? |

CactusFlower
Yes, if the bills have been turned over to Collections, that will appear on your credit report and can affect your FICO score. However if you pay them, they won't affect you either way.. sadly.
FOLKS.. the term is FICO .. not FICA. FICA is the social security/medicare tax that comes out of your paychecks :-) |

?
yes they could affect your credit report and give you poor credit in the future. |

Anything that is unpaid can be turned over to a collection agency, who will then harrass you until you pay... if you don't pay then they will turn it over to a credit bureau and it will go against your credit score... or they can turn you into the police or take you to small claims court... it can be very messy if you don't pay someone for your bills. You will be better if you just pay now than to be taken to the cleaners and pay 50 times more what you owed. Plus it just doesn't look good.
I hope you can resolve your issue soon! |

If they assign them to a collection agency, yes, that gets reported. |

Only if they are reported on your credit report. I have medical bills I never paid from years ago that never came up on my credit report. |

They are on your credit report if they are unpaid and you haven't made arrangements.
Basically, once the bills reach collections, they do negatively affect you. |

It depends on whether or not the creditor or collection agency has reported it or not.If you've been denied credit recently most states allow you to order a free copy of your credit report from all three major bureaus Experian,Equifax and Trans Union. You can see there if it has been reported. If it has you can either get contact information for the crditor or simply dispute. If the creditor does not confirm the debt it will be removed. You can also go to freecreditreport.com and see your Experian report free for 30 days. But If you don't want to pay for the service you must cancel before the 30 days is up. |

Yes, they do affect your fica score. First the hospital or doctor will try to collect. Try to make payment agreement with them to avoid it going to collections. Once it's in collections it will go on your report. |

Yes, they are reported on your credit reports. |

No, it should not. I do know that it is not a factor when getting financing on a home. It is the only debt that is excused. |

Krinta
Yes and no, as most lenders will look mainly at home loans and credit cards. If you have a lot of medicals bills I am sure it would but just a few would not affect your score that much. |
