uncle.lopez | Do we have to be in debt to live a good lifestyle? |
Many people buy expensive car simply for them to show-off,but they don't really have the need for a car. Sometimes, immitate other people by obtained a big loan to go on expensive holiday and come back to face a repossession of their property and nearly lose everything they have because of debts. Why the hell? |

people loves to please themselves and enjoy these pleasures event if they can't afford it. sometimes, they tend to show off just so that they feel accepted in society. sometimes, they use it for public image, sometimes, they just feel like doing so....
anyway, that's human nature. we love to show off just to say we can afford to. even if we come to the point of losing everything in debts... |

Tough one. Could be lots of reasons.
-Keeping up with the Jones
-Figuring their income is going to grow dramatically (Its surprising the number of people who truly believe they're going to win a lottery, and that's how they'll retire...)
-simply don't understand how much they're going to need to retire, AND how costly debt is.
It all boils down to poor judgement.
And here we sit, with our 10 yr old car parked on the driveway, and no plasma screen TV yet, but at least our net worth grows every month. |

Yes it is the USA hun, people are in tune to always out beat eachother. This is going by on going beyond there means. I see many married couples that are in this issue. here are 2 poor example of this i know of.
1) A friend of mine will go out to the clubs with a bunch of us and he has over 1k in cash on him. Takes us girls to VIP ect. big show off. Here he takes out huge cash advances from his credit card to look like he has lots of $. he works at a store making 11$ an hour.
2) Another friend came in and got a home equity line of credit, got 70k line. Instead of making improvements on his home or paying off some credit card debts they had to get a hummer H2
there are plenty more i have about how stupid people are with debt |

Stupidity? I don't know, but do you know that just seeing it somewhat disgusts/furiates/saddens me. And it's, I think, got to do with some problem in their personality, you know psychological problem. And do you know what is even stupider? They are in debt and still they do it again and again. And, going into it religion wise, I believe it's lack of faith. You know if you believe in god, then you'd be satisfied with what you got and stop looking at others. That wont lead you to doing stupid things. |

Unfortunately that's how things work. They say money can't buy happiness, but you know what? It sure makes life more comfortable and enjoyable. And life is to short not to enjoy it. And remember no matter how much money you make, you can't take it with you when you die. So enjoy it now. Debt is part of life. |

I have been working on rebuilding my credit the last 4 years. The credit reporting companies told me that I must be in debt to build up my credit score. If you have no debt, your credit score will not increase. So I do have debts, but in moderation. I have increased my credit score by over 200 points so far, but still have a ways to go before having the perfect score. |

On the contrary, I would find it hard to live a good lifestyle if I were in debt. I would probably not feel very good about myself, and would have to deal with the anxiety financial problems bring.
I think it's a serious problem, and I agree that people often go into debt for poor reasons. It's often a sign that they lack responsibility, and sometimes suggests a low self esteem, as well.
It can be a very superficial world we live in. I'm glad to see there are others who have a problem with it. |

NO, you don't have to live in debt to live a good life style. I used to live in a communist country, it prepared me better though. help me planning ahead. I drive a paid off car and I love every minute of it. I am always set 10-15% of my salary to my 401k. I know I can't depend on government handout. At the age of 32, I amassed 72000 in 401k, 30000 in taxable account for emergency fund. I continue to save it until oneday wake up I can go to work as an option not as a obligation. |
