Bankruptcy is for life!

true it goes off of your credit report after 7 or 10 yrs depending on which type of bankruptcy you file. But, loan applications and many job applications ask it you have ever filed bankruptcy.Ever. If you lie to get a loan because your bankruptcy is very old, technically you have committed criminal fraud.

I personally do not believe in bankruptcy ... I think it is the worst way out of any situation....
I think that people should slowly get out of debt on their own by cutting back costs like cable ...... and spending...... there is always ways to cut back... and its just a matter of making more then it costs you to live... (so if you have credit cards, loans and it costs you 1000 dollars a month to maintain, you should make at least 1800 a month)....

First off, the word is school. I only mention this because adults who file bankruptcy often can't spell school.
Second, I think it is fine if it is a medical bankruptcy. Our country allows a medical problem to wipe you out. That isn't right.
I disagree with filing bankruptcy if it is, wow, i bought lots of stuff and mismanaged my money....Calgon, make it all go away.
Adulthood by its' very nature means, responsibility.

I think it's ok to file if you're really bankrupt, not because you want a way out of paying a debt that you can afford.

of course its ok.who can rightfully sit on a soap box and say its not?people who file arent "getting away" with anything.it doesnt absolve you of all debt.you cant file bankruptcy on personal debt, like if someone lent you money they can still sue.but like credit cards, yes.and even then, the court will order you to make payments up to two years,so its not like you just walk away debt free.theres other ramifications, like destroying your credit rating for 7 years.people can get into debt many ways, its not always from irresponsible spending.it can financialy devastate a family.i can honestly say i have never filed it and see no immediate need, but i wont sit back like a fool and preach its not ok.

I have placed this in the source box. There is a wealth of information there and a great free debt management software program. I bookmarked the site as I return to it often for the advice it offers. I hope this helps you.

Yes, if you are in financial ruin due to unforseen circumstances. No, if you are just trying to get out of your responsibilities of paying your bills.

No. I don't believe it's ok to file bankrupcy unless you have no other options but to do so

I think there are a few, precious few, legitimate reasons to claim bankruptcy.

I'm a stickler for personal responsibility. And I speak from personal experience. In 2001, following 9/11, I lost all of my contracts and spent most of the next three years trying to live on less than 1/10th of my former income. (I don't know too many people who can come through that unscathed.)

Nonetheless, I did NOT claim bankruptcy. I didn't even claim unemployment, nor did I pursue any of the other "benefits" that so many people told me I should. Because I feel strongly that we are all responsible for our own choices.

So, even now, I'm still paying off the $28,000 in debt I managed to accumulate during those three years. And I'm paying it off in full; I didn't take any of the settlement offers.

In the end, I think you have to live what you believe. I can't profess to believe in personal responsibility and go looking for absolution at the first sign of trouble.
