Yes ! I caught up with debts, and I don't use credit cards much anymore. Its just for making hotel and travel reservations now. Wow ! The extra spending money I have now because I don't have to hand money over to Visa or Mastercard as interest ! I was getting robbed by the interest charges, worse than taxes ! Now I can chip in a bit of money to a lottery and have a chance to win and still have more money left than when I used Visa or MC all the time. The debit card made it possible, because its just as convenient, and I still don't have to carry much cash at any time, and its safer because I don't have to worry as much if I misplace it and someone finds it. |

credit cards. I played the game. I use to worship the fico. All i got was debt.
It was hard at first to give up my credit card. It was a sense of security for me. Once I canceled my cards. The sense of security became a sense of freedom.
Credit cards are a crutch.
Debt free is the way to be! |

I no longer use credit cards at all. People believe you need them in order to survive, and you don't.
Instead of carrying around cash for large purchases I use a checking debit card. A debit card is linked to your checking account so whatever is in the account is what you can use. It is similar to cash, but gives you the convenience of a credit card. You can use debit cards for car rentals (not all of them) and for hotels.
Using a debit card is more like using cash because it is linked to the money you have. If you are going to continue using debt (which I don't recommend) then I would recommend only using it sparingly and make sure to pay off the balance before the month is over. |

I got sick of cards (after a divorce) for a number of years and did NOT use them at all. However, I used a debit card with a Visa logo. It's tough to go around without plastic (at least a debit card). And you can use it just as they say, whereever Visa logo is honored. However, you have to be a little careful with hotel rooms and rental cars. Not every rental car agency will accept a debit card. The hotels and rental car agencies that DO accept them actually put a charge/deposit against your card that will reduce available funds on your account. If you have plenty of funds, it's no problem. When you pay the charge/check out/finalize transaction, any overage is credited back to your account. However, you have to be aware of this.
Now I use credit cards for the rewards and pay them off each month. It's actually nice to recieve a check from the credit card companies for using the card.
Good luck; it can be done! You don't have to carry a bunch of cash to get by!

I think that the best solution is a half and half approach.
I would Not feel comfortable walking around with $500.00 if I knew I was going to make a large purchase. I also like the protection that the cards provide.
A card is also very useful in renting cars and settling disputes with merchants (if you did not get the goods you ordered with a cash payment - be ready to get your picket signs out and march in front of the business)
I don't think that anyone has to DEPEND on credit cards and that it is an individual choice to do so! |

I use credit cards to build my credit history. However, I prefer to use my debit check card which does the same thing and takes the money from my checking right away. Most purchases are also insured or back by my credit card company as well.
I hate depending on credit cards, however, I do appreciate the incentives they offer. I use the generous discounts with their partner companies whenever I can and take advantage of travel deals. If I have the cash, I charge for the incentives and pay it off when the bill is due. It takes a lot of discipline to do this though as it is very easy to get carried away and lose track of all purchases. |

You don't. You need a credit card to rent a car or get a motel room... they won't take cash for either of those things. |

I don't use credit cards at all. There's nothing you can do with a credit card that you can't do with a bank check card. It's been proven that people who pay with credit cards tend to spend more money than they would by using cash. |

Most people would use cash.
I think credit cards in the hands of idiots are the worst thing in the world. |

Well I have evolved to only putting $200 on my credit card and paying it off at the end of the month. Would love it if I was able to pay that $200 off, put my card in the freezer and just live within my budget! |

I carry my Discover Card to make all my purchases, but don't
go over what I get monthly. So I pay it off when it comes in so
I have never paid any finance charges on it.Plus I get money
back every month & use that towards my bill. If I used cash I
would never get the $20.00 back its like getting free money. |
