arkansas-gal

I not think you do. My bank has overdraft protection and will charge about $17.50. So, I assume this cover it. :-D

~Divine Mrs. P~
Yes! You would have to pay back a credit card wouldn't you, besides they take it out just like a debit.

Yes you do...I'm presuming you understand that on a debit card, the money comes out of your chequing account but if you have overdraft privledges and you go over the amount you have in the bank, then yes you have to repay that overdraft.

Pitchow!
They take it directly out of your checking account.

If you run your card as a credit, you have to sign a point of sale receipt. If you run it as a debit, you have to enter your pin number and do not have to sign a receipt. BUT, it still comes out of your checking account, either way.

A debit card used as a credit will withdraw money from your bank account.

It comes directly out of your checking acct whether you use it as a debit card or credit card.

onesmaartlady
Your debit card carries a logo associated with either Visa or Master card- you can use it to shop as a debit Or Credit card, but, it is NOT a credit card, it remains a debit card, and takes the money directly out of your associated checking account- just like writing a check, the debit may take a day or two to appear in your actual balance at the bank, but, it will come out- and should not be approved if you have no funds available at the bank.

dragonflygirl
debit card is used to debit your account . I can't think how you use it as a credit .

It gets taken directly out of your checking account. If you use it as credit than it takes around three days to process whereas if you use it as a debit it gets taken out right away. Be careful when you use it as a credit card, its easier to overdraw your account.

kja63
Debit cards act like credit cards for processing. But with a Debit card, the money comes immediately out of your checking account. So there's no credit and nothing to pay back because you already paid it by the withdrawal from your checking account. Think of your Debit card as writing a check without the paper check part.

You don't "pay back" the money, because unlike credit cards, you never borrow it in the first place. It comes out of your checking account instantly.

So, if you pay for something with a debit card, you have to make sure you have enough money in the account before you buy it, but you won't get a bill later.

your bank will remove it from your account, if you have an account on the computer you can check it out to see what has been paid, how much you still have etc.

Yes. The only difference is the way it is run through the visa/mastercard system. When you use it as a credit card, you don't have to enter your pin #, but it's still linked to your checking account.

HOW STUPID ARE YOU. YOU MUST BE AN IDIOT.

WHEN MY DAD TOLD ME THERE IS NO DUMB QUESTION, HE WASN'T THINKING OF YOU.

OF COURSE YOU HAVE TO PAY IT, IT COMES RIGHT OUT OF YOUR CHECKING ACCOUNT YOU DOLT.

Kim K
No you do not. The reason why the bank likes that option and sometimes rewards you (points, etc.) is because the merchant pays a fee to the mastercard or visa company for the convienence of the buyer to pay that way. The bank also gets a kickback.
