Why worry about your credit score?
The only legitimate thing to borrow money for is a house. Otherwise, you shouldn't buy things if you can't afford them.

Do you have to sign the back of your credit card?
Personally, I think it's a risk of someone stole your credit card and forge your signature. What do you think?

If you read the terms and conditions of most credit or debt cards it will tell you that the card is not valid unless signed. In fact that is often written on the card itself.

Now at some stores the cashier won't even look, but an intelligent one will not even accept a card that is not signed.

If you don't sign your card, and then it gets stolen, the thief can simply sign your name on the back. Then whenever he uses your card his signature will perfectly match the one on the card, making his use of the card even less suspicious. Not signing the card actually makes the card more vulnerable to theft.

These days a good card can be shut off instantly with a single phone call, and your fraud liability should be zero on any decent card. So I really wouldn't get too worried about this kind of thing.

Keep in mind that if the terms and conditions require you to sign the card, and you leave it blank, they may consider you liable for any fraud that may happen, since you chose to ignore their recommendations and thus compromised the security of the card through your negligence.

of course you do!! if someone else goes and signs the back of your card, then they have the authorised signature for the card and they cud buy woteva they like and the bill will be sent to you!!

Theoretically, retailers won't accept the credit card unless it's signed. They hardly ever check, though.

Instead of signing it, put " Check ID, or Ask for ID"

No. You can write: "See ID" instead of signing your card.

On the back of any credit card, it states something like "Not valid unless signed". If it is not signed, you are in violation of your agreement with the credit card issuer and you could be held liable for unauthorized charges against the card, if stolen. You may write "Check ID" on it, but you also HAVE to sign it.

I never sign my cards..

badbill1941
The credit cards would like you to, but, it is not mandatory.

Jackie W
I sign my cards to own possesion of it. There's no harm to it and it's supposed to be required that you do sign it because retailers aren't supposed to take your card without a signature, but most of them don't even check.

Yes....sign your card and also write "See ID" on it.
I just learned this myself.

You have to pull out one card anyway...
what diff does it make to pull out two.

And it's added security for you.

If you lose it....and it says 'See ID" and
the 'finder' doesn't have a matching ID
they won't accept it.

Don't use "CID".
Most 17 year old 'cashier's' don't know what that means.

I've hear that some people write "ask for picture ID" on the back of their credit cards since your pic ID usually has your signature on it also. You still have to sign it but nothing says how big your signature needs to be.

Your suppose to sign it because in the event that you dont have your id your signature is suppose to act as another way of verifying who you are. I sign the back of mine with a distinct signature so no one else can find it blank, sign it and then make purchases... granted people are suppose to always check for id but sad to say they dont. Sometimes they forget or just out right dont care. However, it is a catch 22 cause if you lost it they could take the signature and use it else where not just necesarily your card..

armywife32903
I NEVER will sign mine...... if they are not signed the clerk is suppose to ask for ID....instead on the strip write PLEASE SEE ID! I have never had a problem buying anything I wanted whether it cost $1 or $3500.

crustysalivastrings
No, but it is wise to, because if you lose it and you havent signed it, other people will be able to use it, and some companies will not allow you to reclaim one.

Scott W
Techinaclly, yes. It states clearly that the card is not valid if it is not signed. You can sign it, and also put CID on it, or like one of my customers did, write CID in big black marker on the FRONT of the card.

Joey K
I sign "MUST SEE ID"- and they tell me no, I have to sign it.
