Do you need good credit to take out a student loan?

If you can get someone to co-sign the loan (they take financial responsibility) then NO, you don't have to have good credit. If you are trying to get the loan without a co-signer, you will need a source of income and descent credit.

Start with government student aid/loans. It is always going to have the best terms.

Also try applying at multiple places. These three are all reputable

Don't take my word for it, APPLY AND SEE FOR YOURSELF

No, you don't. In fact, a lot of people start building their credit with student loans. Just make sure you don't default so that you don't ruin your credit before you actually establish it....good luck!

It depends. Federal student loans are given out to anyone who is in financial need of it, regardless of their credit. However, if a person has a history of defaulting on student loans, he/she will not qualify for a student loan until the default is removed from his/her record.

A private lender will not be as accomodating. If you are worried that your parents have bad credit, this will not disqualify you. You will just have to take the loan out in your own name. If you aren't a traditional college aged student and you have bad credit, then a financial institution would judge from your credit report that you are not a very responsible person and probably won't complete your education.

i don't think so, most colleges will set it up for you also if you ask in admissions they can help you with that. good luck

Federal loans... No they take anyone as long as your not in default on a prior student loan from them. You may end up with a slightly higher rate, but their rates are very low to begin with and you don't have to pay until 6 months after you stop taking classes either by stopping school or graduating.

if you go to my profile you will see a website that has all kinds of credit options even if you have no credit or bad credit! I can not post the link here because that is againist Community guidelines

i was able to get a loan, becuase my mom co-signed, it reall depends on how old you are. i was 18 to get my loan, so i didnt really have credit, but if you are going back to college at like 30 and have credit cards, i would suspect you need decent credit. It is a loan.

yes, you need to either have established credit or a cosigner with good credit ( someone who will accept responsibility for paying your loans if you fail to)
