Does Credit Consumer Counseling really help people who have big credit card bills and high finance charges?

davidg32
It sure does...and unlike many other "credit counseling" services, it's a non-profit organizaiton...so it will not cost you anything to use.

Daisy
Yes, but make SURE that you have the right organization. There are a lot of rip-off places that claim to do the same thing, but end up just costing you more (think Ameridebt).

It will only help you, though, if you are willing to make some radical lifestyle changes. For example, if you are serious about debt, don't just cut up your credit cards-call and have them cancelled. You might want to take on a second job temporarily to pay off one or two of the smaller debts, just to get them out of the way. You may consider selling some of your property, or having cable TV turned off.

Getting out of debt is not easy; but it's so well worth it. I am personally an adherent of the Dave Ramsey Financial Peace program, and highly recommend it to others. You can check him out online (www.daveramsey.com), on the radio (check for local talk radio listings) or pick up his books at your local library. Start with "Financial Peace," which gives a very clear, concise, easy to follow plan for taming the debt monster.

I can only say that this program works for me. I wish you the best of luck!

ETA: The poster who said the CCC was a free service is wrong. It is not-for-profit; however, they DO charge a fee for their services. It is something like $15/month.

Well, Credit Consumer Counseling helps in the way that you can actually get on a payment scale, The bad thing is that when you use their services it virtually eliminates banks that want to deal with you. When banks see ccc on your report they shut down in terms of helping you get credit established after that. Honestly, it might be better to fight it out. If not that then you can always file bankrupcy, because there are alot of banks that will let you go one day out and will still open tradelines for you.

it does negatively effect ur credit rating, but not as much as not making ur payments. we used a credit counseling agency and it helped alot. good luck.

These can help you tremendously if you really need it. Typically, anyone with relatively high debt, incurring high interest and unable to send significantly more than the minimum payment should seriously consider credit counseling.

Consumer Credit Counseling can help. The key is to make sure that you choose an agency that has a satisfactory rating with the Better Business Bureau. It will be one that is free of any unusual pattern of complaints. Simply looking for a nonprofit organization may not work, since many agencies that are currently under audit are still operating as nonprofit organizations.

Here is a guide to consumer credit counseling agencies by state:

Each and everything they can do, you can do yourself and you can probably do it better. It will ruin your credit report if you use those companies. Fix your own credit! You can do it!

yes. get help.

Happy Mama
they didn't help my husband

Credit Consumer Counseling "Non-Profit" operated by local United Way are there to help. Those which are "Not for Profit" are there to fleece you. Most likely will end up deeper in debt as they will 'steer' you to other 'helpers' to lend you money. Best advice is to cut up credit cards---don't close accounts, to close an account lowers your credit rating score. Best to put them in a plastic bag with water place in freezer. It's there should you need it. Want to buy something, waiting for the ice to defrost--the urge to buy Will pass. High finance charges, pay those first.
Set up pay down plan on paper and follow your progress--to think you can plan schedules in your head only makes it worst. Draw up schedules and STICK to it.

it best if u do it yourself they don't help much just tell what to do were to get paper work and they charge u for that

Yes and no! The service will help you lower your monthly finance charges and will also lower you monthly payment - but it will ruin your credit - your credit card companies will cancel all their cards. Sorry - been there and done it!@
