Does Opting Out of “prescreened” offers by Credit Cards affects your credit score?
Does Opting Out of “prescreened” offers by Credit Cards companies, by sending a letter to three Credit Bureaus asking them not to send more pre-qualified products affects your credit score?

Expert Realtor
No, they don't affect your credit score because CC Co's buy these from the credit bureaus and that is one of the ways credit bureau's generate income.

I personally, don't like to opt out of everything b/c that cuts you off from other deals that may be better than the one you have. I have cut out the telemarketers, but I do like to get credit card offers and deals that people I currently do business with, offers.

Opting out will do nothing to a persons scores.

It will keep the CRA's from "selling" your information to creditors.

When a creditor purchases your information, they will do a soft inquiry - never a hard inquiry.
The soft's do not affect your credit or credit scores since the only one who sees your soft's is you.

Good Luck!

I don't know for sure, but I'd rather doubt it. I may do the same thing.

It shouldn't... Those offers are just an advertising ploy anyway. The only thing that effects your credit score is how many cards you get, and how well you pay on them. The offers are just garbage, really.

Only if you decide later that you want a credit card and they have to pull your report. You would get hit with an inquiry.

No, they have bought your name from the credit bureaus.

No, when you are pre-screened for a credit card this is generally a soft credit inquiry, when you pull your own credit report you may be able to see these, however, other creditors cannot see these types of inquiries (often they can get this information from business partners, etc.). What will hurt you is if you respond to these applications, as this registers as a hard inquiry and creditors CAN see this when they pull your credit report when applying for a loan/mortgage. Hard inquiries hurt you as creditors/potential creditors see you as being in search of credit. There are some exceptions to this, for example if you are searching for a mortgage, several inquiries within a short period of time will not hurt your score as much as several credit card applications in the same sort of time frame. Opting out doesn't hurt your score, same as just not applying to these offers.

It might only because a credit card company may look at your credit report to see if you are credit worthy and when you opt out they wont be checking--that is actually a GOOD thing. Will it affect it negatively? Not in any way that I can see.

no it does not, the thing is and alot of people don't know this, is the more you have company's check your credit the worse it can look on your credit. For example, when you go to a car dealer, they don't only send your info for appvl to just one credit company they send you info to many of them.

Opting out as in throwing in the garbage?

No.
