No one can run a credit check on you without your consent.
However,company's can check with credit ref agency to verify your identity (electoral role) so if you have give any details of your address and or you have been using a credit card or debit card for gambling etc.Then this would explain the search,also note, they do not have access to your financial status if only requesting information for the purpose of ID checking.
If none of the above applies then you need to contact the company who made the search and explain the situation,IF it was unauthorised they have a duty under the data protection act to contact the credit ref agency to request it to be moved. |

Yes a company can run a credit check even tough you don't want actual credit from them.
I think they do need permission but if you agreed to their terms and conditions you will probably find that you agreed as part of them.
If you didn't actually read the terms and conditions that is no defence if you checked the box agreeing. |

The Fair Credit Reporting Act specifies who can access your credit report.
Creditors, insurers, employers, and other businesses that use the information in your report to evaluate your applications for credit, insurance, employment, or renting a home or apartment are among those that have a legal right to access your report.
Your employer can get a copy of your credit report only if you agree. A consumer reporting company may not provide information about you to your employer, or to a prospective employer, without your written consent
So, unless you applied for credit, this company had no right to run a credit check on you. |

Yes, but it's normally very small print and when you agree to terms and conditions when signing up it will be there. Running a credit check should only confirm to them you are who you say your are, they won't be looking at any specific financial information, that's a credit reference. It'll just be a way of identifying you so they can minimise fraud. |

Yes, usually you are asked to fill out a background check consent form. They will not run the check with out getting your signature first. |

I would imagine as long as you have borrowed money or are applying to borrow money, or are in a position where you may need/want to borrow money, they have every right. I don't play online casino but would imagine they have to accept card payments from yourself at some point so I suppose they NEED to know. I've certainly NEVER been asked for permission to carry out a credit check on myself despite probably having had numerous done over the years! |

yes they do. If you go for a loan ect, they cant be expected just to take your word that you'll pay them back. All credit companies share this information with each other and pay good money for details of bad debters. Its not illegal. |
