Oh God yes! But don't you think it's about more than money? Look at what they do to us with all the advertising. They always emphasise that when we spend money we are doing it to feel good and because 'we are worth it'. We want to say 'Yes', we want to have strawberries AND cream. We want to LIVE, and live now! Saving up for stuff takes so long and is SO boring! We'll worry about paying for it later. Later is a long way away and we don't have to worry about it now.
But later does arrive, eventually. And if you can't afford to pay it back, you're in trouble. And then all those people, the banks, the shops, the catalouges that were so willing to throw money at you, start treating you like a silly child. Now they talk about you in patronising tones, and expect you to accept it because you, after all, can't manage your money. No wonder people get depressed, and try to cheer themselves up with a spot of shopping.
Break away from this brainwashing cycle. Advertising encourages us to keep wanting and to think that more will make us happier, wheter it's clothes or cars or even love. But wanting is a treadmill: as long as you have unsatisfied desires you will never be at peace, because to be happy you will either have to satisfy all your desires (unlikely) or let go of some of them. If the need for something is making you unhappy, then work on letting of that need. One of the best ways to praactice letting go is to do without for short periods, many religions have times of fasting partly for this reason.
It's hard, I know, but you must take control. See if you can get any help from the Citizens Advice Bureau. Good luck. |

How old are you? Are you spending cash or using credit? If you are using cash you'll get tired of being broke and criticized at the same time. If you are using credit cards then you will realize it when your credit score plummets and the time comes when you need this credit. Seek help from someone who is able to help you now before you get in too deep. |

hey
i used to do it a lot!! With society like it is today, consumerism has become a big part of our world. It is so easy to go out shopping or for a drink with friends and spend money you really can't afford to but the trick is to budget.
I have had to learn to budget my money every month and being a student myself i gotto tell you that is hard! You need to organise your money and sort out what needs to be paid out every month and what you have spare. The spare can be spent how you like but you have to remember to make sure it lasts the whole month or you will be back in the overdraft.
Try to resist things or try saving for things. Good idea is to get a wine bottle and roll up notes and put it in the wine bottle once a week or month. The only way you can get the money is to smash the wine bottle! Good luck |

No... well, not really. If that's an issue, you might want to look into it. Maybe you really like power trips, or feeling important and that's the way you do it.
But stop spending!! Ahhh! You might be a shopaholic or spendaholic... |

Everyone wants things they can't afford. The solution is to figure out what you're giving up so that you can buy these things you don't need and can't afford. You don't want not have money for something you actually need. Next time you go to buy something you don't need, just go home without it and then if you still want it the next day after you have really thought about it, then buy it. |
