Are sky asking for your bank account number, to set up a direct debit for example? A lot of debit cards have numbers on the front that are different to the account number.
May be this is the case with you, and you are giving your card number when they actually want your bank account number? |

More than likely your card is set up to work as a debit card only. You may have to get a different card or have the bank set that one up for use other than where a pin number is required |

Anything to do with the 3 digit security code? Last 3 digits on signature strip of the card. You often need to enter this. |

As long as you have visa debit logo on your card you should be able to use the card. They may need a code that is on the back of your card to process. First I would check with your bank to make sure that the card is set up correctly, then see
what the actual denial is(they should be able to see this in you history) If everything checks out it might be the merchant error. Ps. never feel silly, there are a lot of people w/ similar questions about their debit cards. |

when you give the details for your debit card, they prob ask for card number and expiery date. they might also ask for start date or issue number. do not give the start date, just the issue number. |

Just because sky say it's invalid that doesn't mean that it is, there system could be down before someone realises there is a problem and you could be the unfortunate person that calls when this is going on or the payment clearing system at your banks end could have failed not allowing your transaction to go for authorisation to your bank and of course my favourite one is that some fool at sky can't be bothered ( i'm an ex sky employee and seen this happen so many times) or if you transferred money into your account and then called sky to make the payment the money may not have cleared in time, always remember that whoever you are making the payment to when your debit or credit card declines have no idea why and all there system will tell them is that the account number is invalid. Hope you get it sorted. (bank manager) |

I agree that they probably want a Visa or MC. Visa cards start with a #4 and MC start with #5. You probably just have a regular debit card. |

There's something wrong with the BACS system that's rejecting your card. Tell your bank and the'll give you one with a new number. |

do you mean your account number was invalid - or your PAN number (the long one on your card) was invalid - it may be that you have reported your card lost?damaged and the PAN number has changed (but this won't change your account number) Check you pan number and Exp date ? |

Sometimes it takes a day or two for deposited money to be posted to your account, so it may not be available to your debit card yet. |

sky dont accept somedebit cards, We have electron & we had to pay the installer in cash £20 to activate the sky card. & sky had to take a direct debit from our account before they would send the engineer.
was all above board, even tho it sounds fishy. |

Some companys do not accept debit cards or visa - they have to be mastercard - do not worry - it has happened to me - the numbers on the card tell them what sort of card it is. They probably want a Mastercard or a Credit Card of some sort. |
