Does banks charge an overlimit fees for "debit card?"?

you can't go over your balance unless you have overdraft on your account
then there is a charge if you go below your balance and go into overdraft

MOM KNOWS EVERYTHING
You can't go "over limit" on a debit card. You can only withdraw what's actually in your bank account, and it should not let you take out more money than is there, unless you have a feature on your account that gives you overdraft coverage. There is a fee for that.

Raw L
If you go over what you have in your account, you'll be charged an overdraft fee.

Some prepaid debit cards will not allow you to go over your balance. When you try to use the card, but don't have enough money, they'll decline the transaction.

dumplingmuffin
banks charge for the air that you breathe

Nancy Kay
no, they charge an overdraft fee...there is no limit on a debit card other than your bank balance...and when you debit your account for more than you have, whether by check, ATM withdrawal or Debit Card transaction, they will charge you an overdraft fee on that account for each such transaction

Yes, the same fees as a bounced check apply to over limit from a debit card.

You bet we do. There is a misconception that if a debit card is accepted by a retailer, it's a guarantee the funds are available, which is not true. Not everything is in "real time". Therefore, if you overdraw your account with a debit card, it is the same as bouncing a check. We will charge you and so will the retailer.

mbrcatz
Yes, just like a bounced check fee. Fees can be a big income source for banks.
