Not sure why everyone shows so much hate about this.
But you absolutely need to get department store cards and a few credit cards to rebuild credit.

I filed last year and was given a CC from them.
I guess everybody does not think other people can handle credit but I bet 30% of the people that posted have a sub-prime loan or an ARM and are really mad so they have to belittle us too feel better.

Yes it probably will. But you should be asking the question why do you want to open a department store charge account? Bankruptcy probably means that you had problems with credit before. You should learn from your mistake and learn how to save and plan for your purchases.

A department store charge account is the wost thing you can get because of the high interest charges. The 10% off the first charge only goes so far. You are better off being patient and buying when you have the cash and it is a BUDGETED purchase.

Much depends on the age of the bankruptcy.

If it has been around 2 years, many (but not all) stores are fairly lenient. Some may even give credit with a more recent bankruptcy.

Rebuilding after a bankruptcy is "generally" easier since you cannot refile anytime soon.

As Echo says, you will probably be turned down for the first couple years.....but keep trying. In order to restore your credit rating you need to begin by getting store/gas cards. The credit limit won't be much you like though.

Oh no some palces will give people who don't need them cards.

Just so you don't go that route again. You need 1 general purpose credit card for emergencies only. A dept store card is not it.

It will effect it until your bankruptcy is paid. There are different types of bankruptcy and if you are paying it back this will help you to get other lines of credit. Many credit cards will accept you because you can not claim bankruptcy for another so many years and so sometimes this also means department store lines of credit.
