Bella | Does it affect your credit if you pay off your credit cards? |
I have credit cards that have small balances on them, but I don't want to keep up with having to makey my payments every month because I am quitting my job in 3 weeks and I will be moving back to my hometown to go to school full time. Will it hurt my credit if pay off my credit cards but leave them open. I mean, I'll eventually use them again but since I'm not going to be working and I'll be going back to school full time I thought it will help if I pay them all off, but I don't want this to hurt my credit... what should I do to maintain a good credit score? Any advice would be wonderful! Thanks in advance friends! |

Actually it should help your score because your debt to credit ratio will go down.
Just use them every couple of months for lunch or something small and pay them off. This will keep your accounts active and help your score. |

Pay off your credit cards to keep a low balance. NEVER close them, it looks bad on your credit. And of course, it never hurts your credit to pay your bills on time. That's what they want. |

It will affect your credit score, but in a positive way. Your score is based on how much credit you have and how much is available to be used. One of the factors used to determine your score is balance due to credit limit ratio. If there are no balances on your cards and they are left open, then you will have 100% of your revolving credit available and that is very good. |

No, it will not hurt your credit at all to pay off the balace. But do remember to use it once a while, because some banks do close inactive accounts. If they do, you will loose your long history credit. |

pay off the balance and keep them for emergencies only...if you have no other outstanding debts, your credit rating should improve slightly and level out...if you use your cards again, try to pay the balance off within a month or two...your rating will continue to increase... |

It will affect your credit rating......all for the good. The card agencies will more than likely increase your credit limits. Go for it. |

Def pay them off before you take off for school.
It won't hurt your credit if you are not using them, however it would hurt if you used them a whole bunch and didn't pay them off or at least make the minimum payments.
From time to time if you are making purchases that allow credit card payments and you know you have the cash, I don't see it hurting your credit score if you use the card and put the cash to it right away. Although I don't believe that this is a must in order to maintain a good credit rating.
Good Luck at school! |

The credit score is based on the ratio of what you owe divided by the total available credit. It is also based on on-time payments. Paying off a small balance will probably have no effect at all.
I have never carried a balance over my entire life and have a credit score over 800.

I don't think so, however I am not for sure. When I start my credit card account I made it a habit to pay the bill all at once. Two months later I was pre-approved at CarMax to buy a car under my name. So I bought a car and I am making payments on it. Finishing payments on a car can sky rocket your credit score. But I don't think you have anything to worry about. But to stay in the safe side just put a couple of thinks on your credit. Like gas, food and clothes. And then when you get the bill, just pay it off all at once.
