yeah, that's too bad. you can't pay it off because the company already took it down as a loss... good luck finding a bank for a mortgage. After 7 years you can let the credit bureaus take it off your report. it won't go away automatically |

Even if you pay it off, it will still show as a charge-off on your credit unless you negotiate with the original creditor to remove the tradeline for a specific sum. In many cases the original creditor has already sold the debt to a debt collector and they no longer own the debt, so paying them may be fruitless anyway. The tradeline should fall off your credit based on your state's statute of limitations for debt. |

The 'charge off' will remain on the report for seven years. Paying it off is no longer an option. |

If it's been charged off and it's been more than 7 years, you can dispute it and they'll take it off. You should dispute it anyway. It's a free process and many times the people don't respond within the time frame allowed and you can have it removed anyhow. |

You can pay it to the company and they will have it taken off of your credit report. Or you can leave it on and try to dispute it. If you dispute, even though it is legit, they may not respond in the amount of time and it would be taken off. You can still make a major purchase. One charge off is not going to stop you. I have horrible credit and I have a home loan. |

Yes, charged off doesn't mean you don't owe it just means its been sent to a third party and off the original holders books. Paying it off will greatly help your credit score |

Yes, because the company who wrote off the debt will send it to an agency and they will call and call until you pay it. Also if you pay it off with in a certain amount of years the debt will come off your credit report and in the mean time will show that it was paid off. |
