Ladylike | Does storecard credit appear on a typical landord accessed credit check? |
I was quite late in paying off a store card when I was 18 (5 years ago), but I'm still worried that it will look bad on a credit check when I look for my first flat.
I have been OK-ed for another storecard since so my credit rating cannot be that bad. Plus I've kept up my payments with this card.
I have however, been refused a loan when buying a laptop to pay off each month and had to use a family member as a guarantor. I was told that I was only refused due to my being a student at the time (and having student loans etc).
Will these things look bad on a typical credit check made by a landlord? |

A credit report is a credit report. Is does not matter what it is for.
A landlord will see the same credit data that a computer store will see.
A landlord may not care about it as much though. They are likely looking for judgements and any records related to you skipping out on a lease and owing money.
5 year old late payments should not matter much at this point. If you never paid off that card, then it would look bad, but late payments that old don't have a lot of impact at this point. |

Individuals and institutions — such as lenders, landlords, employers and insurers — can purchase your credit report from a credit reporting bureau before making a decision about you. Every time you apply for a loan or credit card, try to rent property, apply for a job or try to get insurance coverage, these groups may review your credit report and credit history.

Yes, you will probably need a co-signer for leasing a flat to. You would if you wanted to rent from me, but so does everyone else. |

ALL credit history will be avalible to a vendor. If you're worried about your record, you can view it and even add notes next to issues that you feel have a good reason or should no longer be taken into account.
This is a good article - http://www.bbc.co.uk/theoneshow/article/2007/10/dld_creditchecks.shtml |

Major Score
 |
It will probably show up, but it does depend on what credit reporting agency that store reported to and it depends on what credit report the landlord subscribes. Companies often don't report to each credit bureau. Nor to companies always pull what is known as a tri-merge report. This is a report from all 3 credit bureaus.
You can pull your own report and see exactly what lenders are seeing. You may actually see things you don't agree with that are hurting your score. Then you need to take action to correct them. |

As Real As It Gets

It shouldn't have much of, if any, impact on your seeking rental credit approval.
You should be fine. |

When you take out a store card they do a credit check on you. If you were late paying off a card it is usually noted but so to is the fact that you have paid it and it up to date. Your other loan was quite typical as students have no income so they would require some safety when giving a loan. In this life it is a good thing to have loans and pay them back on time as this gives you a real credit history. If it is a good record you will never be refused apart from an inability to pay. |
