Does your credit score really go down each time that you apply for credit?
I've been told that my credit score will be lowered everytime that I apply for credit whether applying for a personal loan, car loan, credit card, etc etc......is that actually true?

Yes, although they tend to include multiple inquiries for car loans and mortgages as one application because they expect people to shop for the best rate.

Yes, it's best to leave 3 to 6 months between applying for credit or it will also show up on other credit applications.

You can always check your credit score with an independent credit office such as experian if you are worried.

Bill C
Yes it does, they see you as getting deeper in debt.

Generally 5-10 points for a credit card, and 10 points for a mortgage or car loan. You want to keep your score at 720 and up when applying for any loan or credit card.

Max
From personal experience, I have found that my credit score goes down every time I pay off a loan or credit card. I just finished paying off my car a few months back, and my score dropped 7 points. It seems that the more you owe AND pay on time, the better your score is. Mine is doomed to plunge as all I owe is my mortgage, and that is all I plan on owing.

To find out specifically what you must do to raise your score, you can order your score report from all three national credit bureaus. In addition to your score<!--you'll get your credit report, an indication of how your score ranks nationally and an explanation of how you can boost your standing.

In order to improve your credit score, it's important to know where you stand currently. Despite all the media attention given to free credit reports-->you still have to pay to find out your credit score, the three-digit number ranging from 300 to 850 that is the key to your borrowing costs.

Having credit card is only good for in an emergency. Otherwise, your setting yourself up for doom!

Your score can go down every time you apply for credit. I would recommend that you only apply for credit every 9 months. If you keep applying in a short period of time, it looks bad on you. Creditors will see that as a sign that you are desperate for credit, you cannot manage money that well, and is ruinous to your credit score. If you get a credit card, the credit limit may be low, but after paying your card off or keeping the balance low, the credit line will increase.

Yes, especially if you do a lot around the same time. They stay on for about two years.
