Starving Billionaire
Doesn't it seem a bit odd that you have to pay to see details on your own credit record?
How can I see my credit record without having to pay a company for it?

The credit bureaus compile the information for companies that make decisions based on a persons credit history.

They are for profit companies.

If you are making a purchase and your credit report is required either the company you are doing business with will pay or they will charge you for the service.

Consumer protection laws have required the 3 credit bureaus
provide a person with information about their credit report without paying for the report.

You have several option to see your credit report without having to pay for the report.

If you have been denied a loan based on information on your credit report, you can get a copy of the report for free.

There is a web site sponsored by the 3 credit bureaus called AnualCreditReport.com - you can get 1 free copy of all three reports one time per year.

You cannot use these copies to as your credit report to make a purchase. It is for review only.

I hope this helps.

You don't have to pay. You can get a free credit report from each of the three reporting agencies once a year at https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

They will ask you to pay for your credit score, but you have no use for that. I ask one of the agencies for a free report every four months so I get three reports a year..

You are entitled to one free credit report per year.
Just go on line to the three credit bureaus.
Google, Experian. You'll see all three.

However, they will not give you your "score" for free.

yes i know that it sucks they make you pay for the stupidest things now a days
but one way you can go is go to a used car sales lot
and see if they will give you a copy
some of them will act like *** holes but some don't have a problem because it's not hurting them
or you could call the social security office and tell them that you think someone is using your name and would like a report of all things bought with you social security number

In U.S. go to www.annualcreditreport.com- totally free all 3 bureaus- they will ask if you want your scores & you have to pay if you do- but to just see/print your credit is free.
If you are from United Kingdom- you should be asking there rather than here- we have a hard enough time just keeping up with our own crazy world!!

Good luck

In the US we can go to the actual credit bureau and view our file for free, we just have to make an appointment. Hope it is the same for you!

Yes, it's because too many people are stupid and don't put an end to con-games like that and governments don't do a thing to eliminate scam crap like that with items that are peoples personal business.

To the first person who answered: Schedule an appointment? On your dime I take it? Take time off work to do so means it's free? I don't think so.

There have been some laws passed that require each credit reporting agency to supply you with one free credit report each year. This is how it is in massachusetts, I dont know where you are from, I see the UK, so maybe there. So check your local laws and see, trust me this is not something that the credit agencies are forthcoming with. If there is not, you might want to try something like freecreditreport.com. As long as you cancel in 30 days you wont be charged. And even if you do keep the credit service, its not a bad option. You can check your credit at anytime, and they will send you alerts when something changes on your report. Hope this helps.

easy, apply for a car loan, they will get a copy, ask to see it, then change your mind about buying a car.
