in the u.k if you need a bank account for wages to be paid and standing orders to go through, you should go to lloyds tsb (presuming thats not the bank that has closed your a/c) or other bank and ask for application to open a basic account. you will need photo i.d and proof of address. with this a/c you will get a cashpoint (not switch or credit) card. you cannot go overdrawn or get overdraft. it is good for people who have problems with money.
the other thing you could have if you are in receipt of benfits is a post office account. you have a card which you can withdraw your cash from any p/office. you cannot have any wages or anything else paid into it apart from benefits.
good luck for the future. try to sort out your debts, and then after time you will built your credit rating back up and be able to have a normal current account again. |

You could try phoning the Citiziens Advice Bureau as they deal with this type of query on a regular basis. |

Try a building society. Most building societies don't mind bad debts, as long as you don't owe the money to them. |

I had the same problem, and it was someone in here who told me about the "Steps" account with Natwest. Basic account but you get a solo card with it, so that means if you have the money in the account you can use the debit card facility. Good luck! |

You can open a basic account with any bank even with debts you just dont get cheque book or bankers card. You can pay money in and pay standing orders ect |
