Each time I apply for a credit card, does it lower my credit score?

Not necessarily! Despite what others have said here. If you have too many inquiries in a short period of time, then DEFINITELY, it will lower your score. It shows signs of desperation. In my own opinion, the fewer cards, the better off you are in the long run, and the easier it will be to remain in control of your personal finances. Good luck!

mine
Yes, it does.

Yes. These are known as hard inquiries, they stay on your c/r and let others know if you've been applying for credit like mad. If you check it that is called a soft inquire and it is not recorded. Everytime an outside agency checks yoru credit for a credit approval it will drop a little.

Bear Naked
part of your credit score is number of inquiry's...the more times someone looks...the lower it goes.

Lucky 13
Yes. Your FICO score is negatively affected by each inquiry.

WELL, PEOPLE HERE ARE 1/2 RIGHT... IT LOWERS YOUR SCORE BY A FEW POINTS, 1-5 USUALLY, THE FIRST TIME SOMEONE PULLS YOUR CREDIT IN A GIVEN TIME, LIKE LETS SAY YOU WANTED TO GET RATES TO REFINANCE YOUR HOUSE... AND YOU START CALLING AND PEOPLE START CHECKING YOUR CREDIT, THE FIRST PERSON WHO PULLS IT WILL MAKE IT DROP, BUT THEN YOU HAVE LIKE 5 DAYS TO A WEEK PERIOD WHERE YOUR CREDIT CAN BE PULLED AS MANY TIMES AS POSSIBLE AND IT WONT NEGATIVELY EFFECT IT AT ALL. THE SCORING SYSTEM ASSUMES YOU ARE JUST CHECKING RATES.

kind of...one or two, then no...but if you have multiple inquires then it make you look desperate and it will begin to go down.

Belle
Yes it will. The more inquiries, applications, to your credit, the lower the score.

Yes, every inquiry knocks your score down a few points. Try to keep it to a minimum.

namelesspride09
You have to apply for credit though. If you never build credit your credit score will be zero. The best route to take is get a credit card and always make your payments.
