Providing you are not a bankrupt, you can open a "basic bank account" at any high street bank, but shop around first, because some offer more facilities than others.
I have a Natwest Step Account, which gives me a Solo card. This is a debit card so you can pay for your shopping and get cash back. It will pay direct debits and standing orders. I like it, despite my poor credit history, I don't feel like a second class citizen denied access to banking.
The bank that offer a debit facility on a basic bank account are;
Abbey, Halifax, Natwest, HSBC, Yorkshire, Co-op. You should be able to open an account with one of these.
Another good thing about these accounts is that if you have insufficient funds to pay an item and it is returned, they don't keep loading on the charges. A £5 shortfall does not become a £170 debt!. Good luck. |

you need to ask the bank for a non current account that will let you do direct debits and pay wages into it just won't come with a cheque book or visa on the card most of them do this account.

I work for abbey bank we have an account just for you its just a basic a/c you cant have an overdraft or cheque book and you can only have a cash card or a solo cant remember which one, you can have dd and so set up on it, and you can have money paid into it.
Or if this isn't what you want why not open a saving account you can have money paid into it and you don't get credit checked so you can def have one

You need to call and speak with the branch manager. They can override it. Or have your mom or dad(someone you trust with good credit) open a checking account with you. Maybe even a (Power of Attorney with good banking history). Its probably due to overdrafts moreso than bad credit. In the meantime open a low fee savings account with ATM access. It might save u more money. Best wishes. |

Ask for a basic bank account where you dont get a cheque book or overdraft & try and build up your credit score. NatWest offer a good basic bank account as you get a debit card & you can set up direct debits & standing orders. |

Having bad credit should not affect your ability to open a bank account. Credit is used to evaluate someone for a loan, which may include overdraft protection. There should definitely be no problem in getting a basic savings account.
That being said, having bad credit makes it difficult to do a lot of things. Once you find yourself able to maintain good credit, you should look into fixing your credit report. You should look into repairing your credit.
You can hire a credit repair agency to do it, for about $50-$90 a month for a year (at least $600). Most people who are SERIOUS about fixing their credit can do it on their own. You need ot be disciplined about it though. For more information, visit these two sites:

Bad credit is one of the worst problems to have... however there exists a solution.
I will hereby talk from my personal experience.
I did debt consolidation a couple of years ago, however If I had to do it again I would pay to some minor details,
if someone wants to get out of debt today it is pretty easy with a debt consolidation plan, however it may get a bit tricky at times, I suggest you get as much information as possible online on this first,
