TheRock
Fair Credit Reporting Act - ??
I have two entries on my credit report for the same account (one by the original creditor and one by the collections). Is there a section number in the FCRA that applies to only one company legally being able to report the account?

you can put a dispute on it yourself as well if the original company you owe the debt to refuses to remove it.

Sorry but that is a valid entry. In this case the Original Creditor will list the account as a Charge-Off and have a 0 balance. The Collection Agency will list the current balance due.

The only thing you could dispute is that if the Original Creditor is listing a balance or you have more than one Collection Agency reporting the debt at the same time.

The fact that they sold the account to a collection agency doesn't change the fact that you have a history of missed payments and default with the original creditor.

if you send a letter to the collections a cease and stop they will never contact you again most likely the will sell it back

There is no provision in the Fair Credit Reporting Act that states every account can't be listed. My guess is that you worried about the double entry and its affect on you credit score. Realistically, the damage is done. The best option is to cure the derog by paying what you owe.

based upon your situation,I think you should find something useful here.http://creditreport.online-helper.info/freee-annual-credit-report.html

You have to contact the original creditor to have it removed. They still show it as "bad debt" until then

You can dispute this.
Here is a list of common discrepencies that ARE disputable:

Common Reasons for Inaccurate Credit Reports

Mixing someone else's information into your reports

Inaccurate reporting of payment history by the creditor

Misapplication of payments on multiple accounts, showing a larger amount due on undisputed debt, but a smaller amount on disputed debt

Indicating a bankruptcy on your report when you are a co-signer on a debt but not personally in bankruptcy

Accounts fraudulently opened by Identity Theft

Impermissible Access by Spouses, Insurance, Account Reviews, Employers, Opposing Party in Litigation, Car Dealer, Bank

DOUBLE ENTRIES ON THE SAME ACCOUNT

Multiple reports of the same debt by former and a current debt collector

Reporting a more recent date of delinquency to make the delinquency appear more recent than it really is

Failure to note that an account/debt is disputed

Reporting of Obsolete information (account that was in default more than 7.5 years ago except for judgments and bankruptcy)

and now it is off of my report.
