Fired from credit union, bad credit?
Okay i accidentlaly gave away 3000 dollars and got fired from a credit union - it was a complete accident but im trying to get a job at flagstar and not only did that happen but i have poor credit. Will they not hire me because they might think im high risk? Do i have to tell them why i got fired or the exact amount that i was out of balance?

You do not have to tell them that you got fired. Everyone deserves a second chance.
If Flagstar checks your credit and they do not hire you because of it, that is different.

If you are $3,000 out of balance in a cash handling job, you might want to consider finding a line of work where you don't have to handle money. I've seen people get fired for coming up short under 20 bucks three separate times. They were canned without hesitation. Maybe an administrative job or something?

Maybe this is a time to explore another line of work....perhaps what happened is a blessing in disguise....Another line of work that doesn't involve the daily threat of robbers coming into your workplace with machine guns perhaps...

A pretty common question for established companies, especially banks, is "Have you ever been terminated from a job?" And there you should tell the truth. If you don't, you're risking it, and if you need to give references, it would look strange if you didn't give one from your previous employer.

Banks and other financial institutions have a requirement called bonding, which is basically insurance that covers them in case you do something stupid, like steal or take off. (It doesn't necessarily cover accidents, as you described.) No bank can hire you if you've ever been committed for a felony, but it doesn't sound like that happened.

You can take the chance, but have a backup plan just in case they find out.

A lot of employers check your credit report during the background check. It is yet another tool to help them determine your worthiness as an employee.

Years ago I landed a job over another candidate solely on my credit rating. We were both qualified for the job, but how you handle your finances is very telling. My boss told me that after I started working there.

They won't hire you with poor credit. They figure if you're not responsibile enough to handle your own money they don't want you to handle their money. Find another line of work and visit creditboards.com to learn how to start cleaning up that credit report.

You don't have to tell anyone anything at all (some legal exceptions do exists) when applying for a new job. Where you might have trouble is if the company does a background check of your finances, this is very likely if you are applying for a job in banking. How it affects you? Not entirely sure, some will not be bothered since you need money to fix debt.

Hard to say, just take a chance, see what happens. If nobody asks, then don't tell :-)

Mr. Taco
Will they hire you? Only one way to find out. If you don't tell them and they find out, however, you're done for. The best thing you can do is be honest, own up to your mistake, and tell them what you learned. As far as your credit is concerned, most jobs don't look at that. I have no clue if Flagstar is an exception, so I can't really answer that part of your question.

This has many angles!

1. Many employers review your credit as part of your background check. If your credit is bad; it is a sign of instability. They might not hire you (as it is there choice) or may start you off at the lowest wage possible. Clean up your credit (especially if you work at a bank (if you are working with my money you better know how to take care of yours)).

2. How do you accidentally give out $3,000.00? Unless someone from the new prospective employer finds out about this so called "accident" you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

3. Is the credit union holding YOU liable for the lost/stolen money? If this is the case, and you signed anything when you were hired, they may have the right to report this to the credit bureau as well as sue you for the recovery of the money.

Good luck and like I said, CLEAN UP your credit!
