Gas Credit Cards?
I would like to get a credit card that i could use just for gas. I dont have great credit but i dont have bad credit. around the 640 mark.
i would like the credit card to help save my gas money to.
does anyone know the best gas credit card for me would be?
thanks so much for your help!
Additional Details
there are some credit cards that save like 10 cents of a gallon, and thats what im looking for. i will always pay to credit card off monthly, so i dont really care what the interest is.

I use a BP Card and pay it off each month. I have my gas money set off to the side in my check book each month already. Plus I get an extra 15 cent off gas everytime I use it. This comes off the credit card bill. I have had no problems with this system yet. Another posible Gas card to get would be a Shell Card. They have a simular card. You have good enough credit so you should be able to get one. Plus it may help your credit out if you are able to pay it off each month.

Credit cards won't save money for gas.

You'll still be spending your money to buy gas. You'll just have to 1) pay interest and 2) pay in a lump sum instead of each tmie you fill up.

Honestly it's better and easier for YOU to skip the credit card and just pay with cash. Especially if you have poor credit, lay off the credit cards.

Those gas cards you are talking about STILL have interest.

Let's say you spend $3.50/gal on gas and pump in 3 gallons. You say $.10/each gal and have 7% interest.

You spent $10.50 on gas.
You "saved" $.30 on gas.
Your interest was $.74.

Now, you're in the hole. You didn't save anything.

do you mean gas as in gas for heating ? why dont you set up a monthly buget plan with your gas supplier.

Melissa
depends on interest rates and your rating will be different depending on your credit. It looks to me that you can obtain almost any gas card and get high marks for low interest. Best of luck!

So long as you pay your credit card balance off every month, any gas credit card is fine to use.

I suggest you get your gasoline at places that do NOT get their gas from the Middle East or Venezuela. Try Sunoco or Hess.

I don't know oif any credit card that i care to have.

credit cards cost money in one way or the other, if you are foing for soem 10 discount per gallon it would not be worth it.

Gas credit cards are bad. You lose track of how much you owe. And if you don't pay off your card you lose your savings.

Assuming you plan to pay off the balance each month, I would look for one that you can use anywhere and has no annual fee. I use the Chase Freedom card as it gives you 3% cash back on the three categories that you spend the most money in each month.

In your case, if you are using if only or at least primarily for gas, you would get 3% cash back no matter where you fill up your car. Some of the cards out there are tied to certain brands and I like this one you always get the discount as long as gasoline purchases are one of your top three expense categories each month (you get 1% cash back on everything else). You build up credits and then you can request a check once you have at least $50 in rewards. Or if you wait until you have $200 in rewards they will send you a check for $250.

No annual fee and I always pay it off each month, so I pay no fees to use it and get cash back on purchases. As long as you are disciplined to use it correctly and not buy things you couldn't have paid for using cash it works out to be a great deal.

Why would you want to pay interest on $3.50 a gallon. I would look for a card with no interest for the first year. Pay it off every month and when the year expires find another.

The first credit card for gas that you can apply online is the Discover Gas Card.

Another card that is an instant approval card, having gas rewards along with various other rewards is the Hilton Honors Platinum Credit Card. It gives rewards at eligible gas stations, supermarkets, and many other places.

While choosing a credit card that offers you gas back, you should consider whether the rewards should be taken off of the gas or if the purchases at the gas station make you eligible for other types of rewards. E.g. on the Hilton card, you get rewards for your gas purchases but are more of rewards given by Hilton, rather than cash back for gas. So consider this point carefully when applying for a credit card with gas rewards.

there are cash back gas card offering anywhere between 2-6% cash back. I think citi has a BP gas card for 10% cash back which is excellent, especially if you pay it off in full each month.
