So you have destroyed your own credit and now want to destroy your child's before it even knows what credit is about. IT IS CALLED FRAUD. |

Credit checks are done by social security number, so the name doesn't matter. And yes, they know what date of birth goes with what number. If the child is a minor, they won't be given a credit card.
By the way, I'm pretty sure it's against the law to apply for credit in anyone else's name except your own. It's also a pretty pathetic thing for a parent to do to a child. |

Anyone has to be 18 to apply for credit (loans, credit cards, etc.) This is verified through the social security number. It also illegal to obtain or even attempt to obtain credit with someone else's social security number, relative or not. |

My friend sued his mom because she ruined his credit before he was 18 by taking out a card in his name . . she not only faced a civil suit from her own son but found out it was fraud and the state charged her with fraud . . she was only in jail for 5 months for the fraud charge and had to pay a hefty fine. . . it can be done but it's not legal |

Of course the birth date matters. No one under 18 can enter into a legally binding agreement. To get a credit card or take out a loan requires one to enter into a legally binding agreement. The CC company will verify that the SS#s and birth date match, and will deny your request if they don’t – or if the applicant is under 18. |

THis is identity theft.
You need to get to credit counseling. Getting another credit card is only going to dig you in farther. Face your problems now, don't wait. The sooner you fix this, the easier it will be. The answer is not another credit card. Please get the help you need. |

Can you do that..Yes
Is it legal..NO
This is considered Fraud and Identity Theft. If this is done they put their child in a very bad position.
If the child is over 18 the child has to accept the debt as their own or turn their parent in for Fraud. If they are under 18 and the bank finds out the bank won't care and file fraud charges on the parent. |

If you can't get a credit card under your own name, I'm going to assume that you've already ruined your own credit-why would you want to do that to your son? If you're the son, I would contact the credit card company to find out if my social security number is being used for that line of credit. |

Can you say fraud? |

It can be done, but you would be committing a felony. It does sound like you have messed up your credit. If that is the case, I would recommend that you fix your own credit and not commit fraud. Your child will resent you if you open a credit card in his name. |

Oh Boy!

What you're suggesting is a crime (fraud) and boy is your son going to be pissed when you looks at his credit history and sees all of this.
BTW...date of birth is one of the very first things they'll verify. |

You can not use any one else's social security number, It is a federal crime. If the credit card company finds out ( and they often check all account once a year ) they will press charges against you for fraud. It is not worth the risk because you are looking a prison time if you get caught. And yes they do often check the birthdays. |

It would not be approved anyway. It would also be flagged as ID theft and fraud. |

I'm not sure about credit cards, but I know you can take out loans under a child's name. |
