It's quite normal for a credit card issuer to ask you for these documents, especially since it is your first time. They need these documents to verify your identity and ascertain that you are who you say you are, and live at the address you've given them. You may be able to give them alternative documents like a utility bill or bank statement, but that is completely at their discretion. Talk to them if you don’t have what they want.
The period for a new card to actually reach you is about 4 to 6 weeks from the date of application, but I've received mine within 7 to 10 days at times, so it all depends on how soon they receive all the documentation they need from you and can process the application. Hope this answers your question.

cut the card up when it arrives and cancel it- why does everyone want a credit card? They are just evil! If you don't have the money for something, then you can't have i- save up instead.
Cancel the agreement- you'll wish you had in five years time when you're in debt up to your ears |

Once you get your card, please read the Credit section on this blog carefully and see the problems many of us get into with credit cards. Don't join the long line. You can be wise, and only spend what you can pay back. It's when you start to live on your credit card that you'll have very big problems, especially when it's time to pay back.

Dont play the credit card game. sooner or later you will lose. They make all the rules and can change the rules in the middle of the game.
Just read the fine print.
And it is a game people play with credit cards. Once you start losing the game its hard to get out of the game. High interest fees (that they can raise for ANY reason), outrageous late fees and over the limit fees.
Dont obsess with your I love debt score. All its good for is getting into debt.
Pay as you go and live on less than you make. You will win with money.
Debt free is the way to be! |

I wouldn't get one through Chase. They are known to raise their interest rates to almost 30% for whatever reason they so chose. Plus, I have NEVER sent a copy of my drivers license or social security card to any company, so I would be wary about doing that as well. But if you decide to go ahead with it, it can take a couple of weeks to actually get the card. If they don't approve you it will take about 30 days to get a denial letter. |
