Not everything in your credit report goes away after 7 years. Some items can stay 10 years and others up to 10 years. Refer to the credit report timeline at http://creditwisdom.blogspot.com to determine how long certain items remain on your report.
Refer to your credit report and determine which items do not belong and then contact the credit reporting agency to dispute the item. You can find a sample credit dispute letter on http://creditwisdom.blogspot.com along with the contact information of the three major credit reporting agencies. |

Be wary of credit repair scams.
There are no "loopholes" or laws that credit repair companies can use to get correct information off your credit report.
No credit repair company can do anything you can't do for yourself. It is impossible for a third party to make changes in your file if the facts have been correctly reported. |

There are statutes of limitation for it remaining on your credit report 7 years from date of deliquency, there are state statute of limitations depending on the type of debt for collecting on the debt.
A judgment will remain much longer and from memory is about 15 years and CAN be renewed.
If the information is good then you most assuredly do not want to have it removed. If negative the contact each of the bureaus that are still reporting the info after 7 years of time. |

the 7 year rule is from the date of chargeoff so if you stopped paying 6 years ago on an account opened 9 years ago it would still be being reported.
Run a credit report online at one of the maor credit companies and it will tell you when the item is scheduled to be deleted. |

Here's a no-spam, serious answer. There are specific techniques which can be used in cleaning up a credit report, and the proper technique for a particular situation depends on a number of factors - whether the derogatory item is accurate, whether it even belongs to you, whether it's beyond the legal statute of limitations for the particular debt, how it is reporting on your credit report. If you want to be successful, you should do some research first so you can plan properly.
Don't do anything until you research, or you could make things worse by doing the wrong thing. Chances are your situation is fairly simple, but make sure first before taking any action. Go to creditboards.com and study the information there. I've given you the link to the thread where you can start. Based on what you said, look especially at the information related to cleaning up items which are beyond the statute of limitations (often abbreviated on creditboards as "SOL").
Good luck to you! |

There are different types of things. If you are talking about unpaid debt, the statutes are different in every state, and none exceed seven years (Inactivity: payments are activity). There is legislation entitled “Fairness Collection Act of 1996” that is very helpful in this.
If this is active accounts then, I cannot think of anything that would affect you that is this old if it has not been active this long. I do know that there are a lot of unethical agencies that are taking advantage of people with issues in their reports. I have had to fight these predators in the past with my credit, because I have a very common name. You are welcome to using my icon to emailing me if you like. I have no problems taking a few moment to tell you what direction you may want to go. Hope this helps. |
