I got a 4k check. I deposited it, and they said I have to endorse it? Do I just sign in that box, do I have to leave my account number? Why didn't they care before when i deposited 1k in my atm?

Endorse- (definition)
Transfer ownership of an asset by signing the back of a negotiable instrument. One can endorse a check to receive payment or endorse a stock or bond certificate to transfer ownership.
you just flip the check over and sign the back where it says endorse (your account number goes no where near that check, because the person who wrote it will be able to get a copy, if not the actual canceled check, your account number only belongs on the deposit slip). just like the person has to sign to signify they wrote the check (endorse) and wants to transfer the funds to you, the person who cashes it has to sign it to prove that they are the one who is actually cashing the check and are accepting the money.its a legal formality. its just legally transferring the cash . Ive had banks make me sign a check in front of them twice, and compare signatures to my drivers license, when ever i have cashed large checks. and i have had banks that have called me in had had be endorse it if i forgot to endorse a check before i stuck it in an ATM. just sign your name and move on. |

I recommend that you deposit the check through the ATM. Tellers and ATM have different policies. Just sing your name on the back and deposit at the ATM. |

YOU HAVE TO DEPOSIT IT AND NEED ACCOUNT DEPOSIT SLIP ANYWAY?
OF COURSE A CHECK NEEDS TO BE SIGNED. |

You must prove you are the one who is cashing the check. You sign on the back to say, yes, it is me and I am cashig the check.
You sign on the back of the check, on the first line at the top when you hold the check lengthwise.
They did care before when you did it, but they made a mistake.
Go sign the check and be glad they caught it. Next time it could be a withdrawl and they dont get the right signature, and someone takes 4K from your account. |

If the check is made out to you then you have to sign it if you want to cash it or deposit it. they usually want you to put your account number incase there is a problem they can pull upyour account and have your contact info or if you cash it and it turns out bad charge your account. nobody knows who you are by your signiture. |
