Harrasment?
Is there any point that a collection agency can go to that is considered harrassment to the point of being illegal? Such as calling 20x's a day? Saying they're sending a statement and never getting one? Refusing to send another statement? If so, what do you do about it?? Additional Details Actually I live in NC. And no, this isn't a credit card. This is for a company I ordered from online who requires no SS# or upfront payment to order. I paid them (the original company) a payment on the order but the collection agency still calls. Now the original company has disabled the ability to pay online and can't even mail them the payment anymore. I was told I had to pay the collection agency now. But they will not send me anything. They demand me to give them my banking information over the phone to make my payments and I refuse to do that! I do not know this company.
From experience I have to say that if you just answer the phone and answer what ever their questions are, they won't call back until a certain given time. Like they'd call me and ask when I'd be able to send a payment and I'd tell them that I'm looking for a job and don't have any money right now and they'd say "Ok...we'll call back in a week" or something to that effect. But if you don't answer the phone or hang up on them, then they have every right to keep calling until you give them some answers.

you can ask your state attorney general about this- they handle this kind of situation.

Depends where you are. In the UK there are specific laws which make harrassment a crime. What the situation is in your area I do not know. It would be useful (for you) to go to the neighbourhood law center and get advice, or ask the regulatory body which deals with consumers for their advice. Good luck.

Condense! This is WAY TOO LONG and I don't have time to schlep through it.

There are laws to protect you from creditors. If they're calling 20 times a day they are breaking the law.
If this is happening to you contact the company that "hires" the collection agency (this is the company that you owe the money to), tell them you intend to pay the bill but you refuse to deal with people who are breaking the law.

receiving 20x calls a day would make me not want to pay them at all. if it's a matter of credit debt, debt consolidating companies can keep the calls under control. i would think that 20x calls would be harrassment but i truely don't know for sure.
maybe
you should have a digital (e-mail) copy of the transaction.Find it.

check the better business bureau just to see if they are legit and if you did that already then report them.

well pay your bill then you will have not to worry about them. Even pay them like 10 bucks to get them off your back. if you want to really advoid them change you phone number. Oh wait then they will file a law suit right away. pay you bill then now worries.
