As long as YOU all THEM and you know you've got a correct number, it should be fine-- assuming the bank does it that way. |

I've heard of bank accounts that you can open by mail. Are you opening it with a reputable well known bank such as Citibank or something like that, and what security precautions are they taking? You give pretty much the same info to open a creidt card over the phone so I don't think it's THAT bad. How are you gonna make a deposit through, through an existing account? |

most banks have a call center where you can open new accounts or apply for credit or whatever
a lot of people use this service so I think it's quite safe
but I definitely wouldn't use any online services like this |

not every bank in america requires you go in lol. that's ridiculus. if you dont believe me go to www.bankofamerica.com and see for yourself. |

One, be sure you are phoning a real bank, don't assume a phone number contained in an online solicitation (email or popup window) is legit.
It's not true that you have to go into a branch. I have opened several accounts over the phone. Be sure you have your driver's license handy - for ID purposes. Also have your check book for the account from which you are going to provide funding, as in most cases they will want to set up an etransfer of funds. Finallly, know what email address you wish to use for correspondence with the bank.
As far as ID is concerned, in most situations, they required that I follow up either by fax, mail or email with a copy of my driver's license, and/or SS card, as proof of ID.
They could reject you if your credit rating is bad. Some online banks are targeting people who they hope have money, so they are not interested in those who have lousy credit ratings. |

I did it twice, and I'll do it anytime again. (Scotia Bank and ING)
In fact, it's the best experience I got with a bank.
but make sure you're doing business with a well-known bank. |

All banks in the US require you to physically go into the branch to open a new account. This is obviously for security reasons, since they need your proof of identity (Driver's license or government issued ID).
Also, they might run your social security number through Check Systems (or another verification company) to see if you have ever closed a bank account with a negative balance. |

Can you tell us =
Which " Bank " allows you to open, an account over the phone..??
Its necessary to show - proof - of I.D.
Shouldn't be allowed, for your own, "security" with personal info details ..etc. |
