I was with my son when he was getting his passport photos the other day and the woman at AAA suggested getting a debit card that you front load with $$ for travel. You put the money on the card (lowest amount is $250) The cost of the card is $5 and it is able to be used for up to two years without penalty. He will be going to Germany and she said they accepted the cards there and if you needed to withdraw money out of an ATM, it was $2 per transaction. Just curious if anyone has done this and if it was worth doing versus traveler's checks. |

Your best option.
Make him an authorized user on one of your credit cards if he is under 18.
If he is over 18, co-sign on a credit card with him since he may not have good credit established.
Credit cards offer 100% fraud protection.
If he loses this card - it's like losing cash - you'll never see it again.

Hi,
I think it is always better to go through your bank for these types of prepaid cards.
Also in case of an emergency you can load it hassle free from your bank.
The cards are almost always free at your bank and you as well do not get charged for reloading them.
When they first came out these pre paid cards were found at several stores and it costs to load, to start using them too. Transactions cost as well.
If you get one through your bank it is always better
