Question Queen Mentally Special! | Have you ever been in over $50K of debt, & eventually got out of it? Is it possible? |
I'm talking about credit cards, student loans, lines of credit, financing cars, homes, etc.
How did you do it? I know you had to work, but did you have to work enough to be overwhelmed? |

Yes, yes and yes :-)
It sounds simplistic, but I basically just cut back on all unnecessary spending, cut back on my monthly expenses as much as possible and put every extra dollar I could come up with towards my debt.
The secret for me was to focus on one debt at a time and get it paid off (while making minimum payments on all the others still) then move on to the next one, rolling the payment from the first into the second. I just kept doing this until the debts were all paid.
It was a little overwhelming in the beginning, but once I started to see some results it actually started to get kind of fun, trying to find ways to make bigger and bigger payments.
The hardest part for me was breaking the bad spending habits I'd developed over 10 years or so, which is what got me into debt in the first place. Once I got over the "withdrawal" and created new, better habits, things got a lot easier. |

Obama had 40,000 in college debt when he announced he wanted to run for president.
Everyone has student loans.
Work on paying the credit cards first.
Make it a goal to have your home paid off by age 50. |

i have never entered debt and know that eventually i will have to, but of course it is possible, yes you will have to work yourself to the bone to get it done, also things like the lottery, even if they are improbable, still have a chance of helping you |

I hope I'll become a famous writer and an artist to inspire the world and give people like me hope.

Just my house and with paying the payments every month it is almost paid for after 20 years, I think we have a few more years left. We always had a car payment and when we get the charge card bill I usually pay the whole thing or if I can't I don't use it any more until I get it paid off, I think it has been up to around $5,000 a long time ago.
The whole idea is to work, pay the bills and what is leftover is for food and fun. So if they bills take all the money and you have to eat, there is none left for fun stuff and things that are not necessary. That's when you think maybe I should get another job. Some people have 2 or even 3 jobs just so they can pay their bills. |

Never that much at one time, but there were a couple of times that add up to about that. You just have to work at it, change your spending habits and make a budget and stick to it. If you need a second job, get it. If you need a third job, get it. You do whatever it takes and the sooner you do it the less it will cost you in the end. Look for credit cards that have 0% APR for balance transfers and go with that. It will harm your scores in the short term, but with all that outstanding debt I doubt you would have very good scores to begin with. Get as much of that debt on the 0% accounts and pay the minimums while paying as much as possible on the highest interest accounts. You will see some people say this is bad, but if you have several thousand dollars tied up in accounts that you are paying 25% or more then it is costing you way too much money. I was able to transfer my two highest accounts to a 0% card for 18 months at a one time charge of 3%. The APR I was paying on them was over 22% each so you can see that a one time 3% was better than paying almost 2% every month. You just have to do the math to figure out what will save you the most money in the long run. I would not pay anything but the minimum on the student loan since most likely it is locked into a low, fixed rate. You can tackle that after your CC's are long gone.
Just take solace in the fact that your balances are dwindling. |

When I got out of college I had around $50K in debt. I have been paying this debt off steadily. My girlfriend is closer to $100K in debt because of buying a house. Most home owners have way over this and manage. It is all how you budget your money and how you want to live. If you buy more car or house than you can afford then you will never make it. If you live beyond your means you will not make it either. |

When you have a huge debt and are not able to pay it you can go for Debt settlement, even though your credit score gets affected a little the debt settlement company will negotiate with your creditors to reduce your debt levels. Freedom Debt Relief is a good choice, their debt reduction program is good. |
