Well done you honey - as you say, you don't wanna get back in debt. Think back to what it was like - the worry, the hiding from people. You really don't want that all over again.

Br proud of yourself and what you've achieved. Don't go throwing it away. Consider what makes you want to spend; can you find a substitute to make you feel OK?

My dad was the last of the big spenders, on things he couldn't afford - it made my Mum's life Hell. Please don't go there hon. Good luck - be strong

i know its hard sweetie, BUT you have done so well to get out of the debt already...just try to treat yourself once or twice a week, but set yourself a limit on what you spend...i try to do things which don't cost much...and i read every time i get the urge to wallop out me wallet....it is almost like an addiction, for me anyway...but keep on, and think how well you've done.

Hang in there, and resist the temptation to overspend - think about how it was when you were deep in debt and trying to get out.

Good luck, and congratulations on clearing up your finances.

just try to remember how it felt when you were in debt.

Now you are free from debt , spend the money you have, then when you come home know that you have bought it not a piece of plastic. Spending may make you feel good but remember when you dreaded the post coming through the door when it was the bills. Dont forget how the debt felt. When you feel like this think of all the things you have and then of all of the people who dont have as much as you do,
Read the debt forums and you will see how desperate and terrible some are feeling, dont go back there.
No credit you dont need it now.

All the best

Is debt when the banks earn more than you do each month out of your wages? Ugh what a sick feeling that is. Try and curtail your urges and find free things to do instead.

Shopping can be an addiction. We often don't think of it in those terms but think of the feeling you get, that rush, while shopping. It's kind of like 'shopper's high'. Alot of people experience that at some point but it's important to keep it in perspective. Is it worth getting back into debt again? How did you feel when you were in debt? What do you need to do to avoid getting back into debt?

I would start by satisfying that urge to shop with something else. Let's say it's Saturday morning, you're ready to go to the mall. Instead of doing that, how about volunteering? Or working on a project with a friend? Or even for fun, by some fabric and make something out of it? I could go on but you get the idea!

Also, try setting up a reward system for yourself. Have someone help you with this: After about 3 months of no shopping, maybe you can reward yourself with buying only 1 or 2 things. Then try going another few months and see how that works.

Best of Luck!

i don't know about you and all people are different but i want to spend when I'm bored and find the best way not to spend is keep your self busy when the urge comes, go and see a friend or go for a walk, run, bike ride, read a book, watch a film, or get a hobby. start saving i get a buzz off watching my money grow, open savings account that gives you good interest, every time you want to spend put the money in the bank instead, your be very glad you did when its evening time and the shops are shut. when you spend money you haven't got or that you cant afford you just feel guilty that's why putting it in a bank will take the guilt away and your feel proud that you didn't waste it, then you can save for some thing you really want like a holiday or a new telly. xx

John?
Shopping can become addictive. Find a good hypnotherapist and he/she will help you, and that will be money well spent.

There has been some success treating a spending compulsion with psych meds. You could talk with a counselor about this option, and if it sounds like something you want to try he/she would refer you to a psychiatrist.

Other, less drastic, suggestion: do your shopping at flea markets, goodwill, thrift stores, etc. visit tag sales, auctions and craigslist.

there are tremendous bargains to be had at a tiny fraction of retail. I do this now instead of hitting the mall when I have an urge for retail therapy, and I take tremendous pride at the bargains I find!
