alexmcturk | Having problems with debt collector for an 8 yr old account they will not provide info other than amount i owe |
Today i got a letter through the post from a debt collection agency. When i phond them i was greeted by an unhelpful agent who would not provide me with much info. The debtor was noted as singlepoint and when i called they said it was an outstanding account relating to a mobile phone contract. I have terminated all contracts by the relevant means as far as i am aware. They then said that the account was £290 and that i should pay immediately or risk being blacklisted. I asked them to provide me with a statement showing exactly when the payments were missed and some detail more than just a rought date and a random amount. I was told that i had 2 options to 1. pay the amount or be blacklisted - basically they providing any further information was out of the question. OR 2. Be taken to court for the amount. Is this correct? What is my rights? How can i stop them taking action until the matter is explored further. If the claim is valid then i will make payment but i need more info. |

Tell them that when they provide proof of the original debt, and a breakdown of all costs accrued since, *then* you will pay it. Put that in writing to them. |

Sounds like a scam to me phone them tell them you have been advised by your solicitor that unless they provide you with the relevent details you will see them in court. Also put it in writing to and send it explaining that you are willing to settle if supplied with the info requested, keep a copy |

this happened to me recently.first of all they have a legal right to chase you for payment but they dont have a legal right to make you pay as its over 6 years old.they dont have a legal leg to stand on.tell them to take you to court.i did and i won.if they havent contacted you at all in 6 years til now they cant do a thing about it. |

if you have recieved the letter from a debt collection agency then your credir file will already have the information on the amount you are supposed to have defaulted on.if in fact you have this on your credit file already then there is nothing you can do
unless the debt collection agency can provide paper proofs of the debt to you then you are not obliged to pay ask the to provide proof of the debt with the orginal company and you will consider paying,if they cannot provide proof of the debt they cannot enforce it in county court call their bluff |

hi, if you have recieved this from a debt collection agency then by law they must provide all details of the account such as an account number, singlepoint was purchased by vodafone and is now known as vodafone retail and has been since 1993, if this a genuine debt then i would write to agency again asking for account number mobile number it relates to and dates of activation if they do not give you this then, wait until they send you court application and show your copies of letter in court, courts do not like it when debt companies do not disclose all info to alleged debtors also contact citizens advice, good luck |

Write to the company and ask them to provide full documentary prrof that the debt belongs to you and that until they do provide it any future contact from them will be seen as a form of harrassment for which you will be seeking legal advice for |

Don't pay this company any money! Go to your Citizens Advice Bureau. In England, Wales and N. Ireland, there is a time limit, usually six years on starting legal action to claim money owed. Don't contact them anymore for the moment, until you've spoken to a CAB adviser. It sounds dodgy to me as a business would not threaten you with blacklisting, they would forward your details to a debt collection agency and you would be contacted formally by letter. |

It it were me, I would tell that I am prepared to pay them the amount that their debt collection agency paid to buy this supposed /alleged debt, this is usually in the region of £1.00 - £10.00, but only if they provide you with certified details of this debt purchase.
Other than that tell them to take you to court, for this amount they wont, because it would cost them more than the actual debt for them to do this.!
Not definite but do not think that you can blacklist on a debt over five years old, basically they are scaring you, tell them to go elsewhere and that you will see them in court, where they will have to provide the details that they are refusing to provide you with now! Stand up to them! |
