Just M | Hear is my situation , $10,000 in credit cards debt , pay more than they ask ( double amount )? |
I always pay 2 weeks early anytime I send my bills . what bothers me is the $10,000 I want to get those paid off ASAP.
I have a car loan , I'll just pay that like I am, the last 2 cars I paid them years early . Our house , I'll do the same , it's mostly the credit cards . Yes they were used but we're responsible people to pay our debts .
I was just wondering if there's another way to pay these cards off faster ........I guess take the bigger interest card and pay that down faster and then work on the smaller ones after that .
My score is 775 - 780 . I make every effort to do the right thing . well except for a credit card debt of $10,000.
I want to get them paid off fast. That's my point . |

Just keep chipping away at the debt. I was once in a huge amount of debt, almost $40,000. I worked hard and paid the entire thing off, and now I'm debt free aside from my mortgage. I also never defaulted on the debt and paid on time, so I have an awesome credit rating. It was hard, but I'm so glad I did it. The relief on the day I made my final payment was indescribable. I now pay our balances off every month so we have no bank charges........Ive also got a very healthy savings account.
Here are the steps to paying off this debt:
- Destroy the debt cards, that way you will not add to the debt.
- Set a payment amount in your head for each month....e.g. I will pay x amount every month until the debt is clear
- Commit to paying way more than the minimum payment, or that debt will increase over time.
- If you have to, keep one emergency credit card which you will pay every month without fail
- Look objectively at any non essential purchases and say do I really need this? Will this make me happier than the feeling of clearing the debt?
- I think you can call the credit card companies to negotiate.....I did not do this as I was worried it would affect my future credit and showed that I had a problem. Maybe you should look into it.
- Finally, good luck!!!! |

consolidate & transfer the balances to a new CC with a low intrest rate... This will ensure you only have to make one payment on the full $10k and it is a low intrest rate... |

yes, the high interest ones should be paid off first. pay the minimum on your other bills and use any extra cash to pay off the credit cards. credit card debt isnt good! good luck. |

If you are paying off your mortage early, you are much better off paying down your credit cards instead. I fyou have equity in your home, you would be better off getting a home equity line of credit, ort second mortgage, to pay off your cards. The interets will be lower, and will be tax deductible. However, you really ned ti understand how you managed to accumulate so much credit card debt in the first place, and not repeat it. |

pay minimum on your mortgage and car and use the money for the the credit cards, unless any of your cards are 0% int. Once your cards are paid then you can pay off your car... then your mortgage. Make sure you save some along the way for those rainy days so you won't have to use your credit card again. You sound reponsible and I know you'll do the right thing. |

You have credit card debt, and you wan to pay it off as quickly as you can. We will assume that you are going to stop creating more debt. You have changed your ways. You also understand that paying credit card<!--balances with a consolidation loan or rolling it into a mortgage isn't paying it off. In fact, paying a lower interest rate, but paying on the debt for many more years, usually means paying much more, not less.Okay, so you really want to be rid of that credit card debt.

First, you have to understand that not all debt is the same. Of course you know this. Some of your cards have a higher interest rate than others.Find and budget the money to start paying down those balances. If you order pizza every week, for example, you may be spending $60 or $80 per month right there-->If you are serious about getting those debts paid, you may have to eat $4 frozen pizzas for now. Do what you have to do, and determine how much you can apply towards the debt each month. |

If your credit is that good, you should be getting offers for credit cards at 3.5 percent fixed rate. Check one of those out and apply for it. When you get it, call them and ask them to increase your limit as high as they can. (Ask for $10,000, what the heck.) Whatever they give you, transfer that full amount from your existing $10K debt to the new low-interest card. Then pay it off as fast as you can. |

the best way to do that w/o hurting your credit (which is what happens when use debt consol. and debt repay programs) is to use the "snowball method" google it. It works! I used it and i'm so glad it did! |

You're exactly right. You should focus on one card first, but not based on high interest. Base it off balance. Pay of the smallest cards first. There is two reasons to do this. 1) It gets more cards paid off as soon as possible. which makes 2) Card companies offer you specials. Like "one year no interest!" Because whenever you zero the balance on a card, the company WILL offer you something to try and get your business back. When they do, transfer the balance from your high interest cards to the new sweet offer card. Then you can focus on the high interest stuff. Sweet, huh? |

Transfer your balance to a no interest no balance transfer fee credit card. Then who cares if you just pay the minimum, since you are not paying any interest. My husband and I ran up $15,000 in credit card debt about 6 years ago. We transfer the balance every year and a half to a new credit card with 0 interest. I'm amazed that the credit card companies still let us do this. We have had this balance on three different Chase accounts. |
