The first thing you will need to do is call the three major credit reporting agencies and request a free copy of your credit report.
www.equifax.com
www.experian.com
www.transunion.com
Then once you get those in the mail (7-10 days) there will be a dispute form attached to the reports. Fill those out for every negative account on your report regardless. Fax, mail go online whatever it takes to get those submitted as quickly as possible. Then those companies must answer your dispute within 30 days or it is removed from your credit report completely. So that will eliminate some things, hopefully.
Good Luck! |

You shouldn't have been carrying your SS card with you. Your suppose to leave it at home, in a safe place. You need to call SS office & tell them what happened. You also need to call the place where you got your State ID from, report all your cards, cancel your credit cards, bank cards if you had any in the wallet. Everything that you remember being in the wallet, call all those people and warn them. You can put a fraud alert on your credit report to prevent identity theft. Contact one of the 3 major credit bureaus & they will do the rest. |

<>Notify every agency and company (SSI, DMV, credit card companies, etc) for all the cards you lost (you will need to do this anyway in order to get replacements). Unfortunately, there is little you can do to ensure that you will not become the cause of identity theft. Oh, and here's a biggie...if you have health insurance, let them know your ID was stolen. A big crime today is the theft of medical services (using your SS# and name to get medical that is billed to you and your insurance). |

First and foremost call a local law enforcement agency and see if you need to file a police report. Then call the federal trade commission and file a claim with them so that they can alert the credit bureaus (they will probably want you to have a police report). call social security administration and inform them so that you can get a new copy of ssn. That's about all you can do really. The federal trade commission can help you with identity theft. |

put a fraud alert on your credit report with all 3 credit bureaus even if you don't have credit cards it will alert them if someone tries to open accounts in your name. They may need a police report i am not sure. |

First of all NEVER put your ss card in your wallet again. I know you can memorize the #, and just take it with you when you need it. Call the credit bureau like Experian 1-800-509-8495 and tell them to put a hold on your credit. This will stop them from opening credit cards etc. in your name. Cancel all credit cards and keep an eye out on them. In about a month order a credit report to make sure nothing has been done and then in about 6 months order another one from Experian. After that I'd just order one once a year for about the next 5 years. Problems are easier to solve when you find them out early. |
