Help! I lied about my age to get credit!?
I am 16, 17 in a week, and I already have 4 credit cards (one platinum, one gold, and two classics), a cingular cell phone account, a Dell Preffered acccount with $2,000 line of credit, and a credit score of 715.

My mom signed me up for a joint bank account last year and they gave me a credit card with $500. Since then, I went on to get all of that other stuff by giving my real social security number, but lying about my age,I said I was born in 88' instead of 90'. They approved me since I already had a line of credit .

I am actually doing REALLY well. I pay everything off ontime ,and I actually have a better credit score than my mom!

I work so I pay off all of my own bills. I'm just worried about the fact that my age is wrong on everything in my name. What can I do!?!?

Hi, yea that's a FELONY. Close the accounts. Pay them all off and never do it again. You having credit cards is not the crime. YOU LYING ABOUT YOUR AGE to aquire them is...

1st of all, as long as you used your correct social security# you probably have nothing to worry about. The only thing that could possibly happen is if you default on your loans and they find out that you were under age, they could sue you for supplying fraudulent info. My suggestion would be to stay on top of your credit and continue doing what your doing....paying on time, and you should be fine. It is the bank issuing the credit cards responsibility to verify all supplied info with copies of I.D (ie. your drivers license) which should have had your birth date on it.

Secondly, thats a great credit score that you have. Keep working on it and find out what it takes to keep it that high. Dont over borrow with anyone or have alot of companies pulling your credit bureau because both of those will definitely lower your score.

As long as you keep paying you shouldnt have a problem that I see.

If you have lied to get it, then you are subject to have all of you debt due and payable when they find out. So unless you have the money to pay them I would just pay the bills and keep the good credit.
Also, if you did default most state say that you are not liable for the debt because you are a minor, however because you falsified the application they can legally make you pay, ruin your credit and file several legal suits against you like, fraud which is a felony.
So, either be a BIG man and tell then, possibly go to prison, or Take care of what you have make payments and don't falsified any further information. Once you have a card paid off, then destroy it, When you are legally 18 then reapply, you will still have a great credit rating and nothing the wiser will be said.

Miss.E
They dont care as long as you are paying the bill on time. Dont tell them or they may cancel your card because legally you dont have to pay back anything because you are not 18 therefor you can not legally sign a contract so they would not be able to do anything about it if you did not pay the money back. So no dont tell them

Vic
You may be able to undo the problem without any damage. Just pay the accounts in full and cancel them. If not, at least maintain good standing in these accounts. Get new accounts with your correct age. It is very important that your credit reports have the correct age.

As long as they don't mind, don't sweat it. They actually send my dog credit cards in the mail all the time.

Starving Artist
As long as you are paying them leave it alone. then when you turn 18 let them know so they will change it.If you tell them now I doubt they will give you credit.

Eliza
OOOPS, you better not do that again, but hey, its already over and nobody found out so don't worry about it and if they do found out , just say that you made a mistake and you're actually born in 90.

P.s I lied about my age to get a job .....Im 19 and I said Im 21.

livingwell
I wouldn't worry about it. They almost never go back to review your original application and to check your birthdate. If it ever comes up, just have it corrected.

Em
If anything comes up just tell them it's a mistake or cancel the card. I wouldn't suggest doing it again though.

Lady Miss Keir
I always thought it went by your social security number more than anything. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just be sure to keep your credit in good standing and I don't think that there's anything anyone will do. Not drawing any attention to yourself should help. By the way...I've got an 18 year old and I can't say I'd allow him to have done that, but you seem to be taking the responsibility seriously so I give you kudos for that!!! At least you're not out stealing for the things you want. Just don't get in too deep...good luck!!!

Honeybots
I think you will have a problem later with your SSS. And you will be charge with fraud.

say the truth... you're not in debt to anyone... if your parents know... it shouldn't be much of a problem... and plus what are they going to do... arrest you.. the worst scenario i think is that they would fine you and or take your credit cards away... plus.. if you are of age now.. i'd wait and a while... and then go tell them that you made a mistake on the application form or something..

ok say sorry apolagise and see if you can correct it in some way either by telephone or intenet dont worry about it

Lauren
once you are the age you lied about pretend you said the rong age and just now realized it. then ask if u can change it.

djmicheals
You really should call your credit card company and tell them that your date of birth is incorrect. Give them the correct date of birth and let them decide what they want to do. You, or your mom, can be held liable for fraud.

Another reason is if someone steals your identity, you want to have all of the information correct or it could hang over your head for a very long time. Good luck.

The Real Dangerous Dave
You could be in trouble, mate.
I'd pay all the cards off, then cancel them. Then, when you reach 18, re-apply for the cards you're interested in.

They shouldn't have even given you the cards in the first place if they did their security checks. You could be prosecuted for fraud even for taking the accounts out, but there's nothing you can do about that now.

Click the website moneysavingexpert.com, you'll be able to get better advice from the forums there.

Good luck, whatever happens.
