I have heard about parents with bad credit doing this....This is a really short sighted thing they have done...
If they are missing payments, and the interest rates are going up, this will snowball and these credit card companies are going to cut you off.....
So the reality is that this will end....
So you have 2 choices....
End it now and do some damage control, or let your credit get damaged for 7 years....
I would say, end it now...
Here is what I would do....Contact the number on the back of these cards, and tell them you are only 16. They will shut down the cards.
Some people here are talking about jail...But lets get real...Do you really think the prison system is going to take anyone in your family when we are letting violent offenders go because the prison system is filled to capacity?
Next, get a copy of your credit report, and dispute everthing on there...You are 16, too young to have credit...So you might be able to have this whole thing handled... |

Duckboy is correct, at 16 years old you are too young to even have credit so call all of the credit card companies and shut the cards down.
Then dispute every account on your credit report due to your age. They should all be removed once they verify your age.
As far as the legal end of this it will depend on who actually applied for the cards in the first place, if your parents did, then the committed fraud and the credit card companies can come after them for it. If on the other hand you did, they can come after you. |

You are in a spot honey. Without getting in trouble with your parents, I would go talk to a school counselor first and ask their advice. Explain to her you don't want your parents to know, but you want out of the situation. Your parents have put you in jeapordy, because I believe you signed undee penalty of the law you were indeed 18. What you and your parents are doing is illegal. Perhaps you could call the credit card companies and tell them. Explain you don't want to get in trouble and would prefer your parents don't find out you turned them in. |

Oh by the way lying about your age to get a credit card is called FRAUD and you did it 6 times, so that is six counts of fraud, you could be looking at up to 15 years in prison, so try to get out of this situation as soon as possible. |

Your credit score will stick with you for 7 years. Also lying to the credit companies is fraud, so you could get in trouble too.
If I were you I would call the credit card companies and cancel all of the cards. Then slowly pay of the one that has a balance. If they all have balances, I would call consumer credit counselors for advice.
Your parents need to grow up and take responsibility for their money problems and not pass them off to you. |

So many people can get in trouble for this entire thing. My best recommendation would be to close all of your accounts immediately. You may be able to avoid some of the damage done to your own credit if you admit to the credit card company that you are a minor. Your parents may then be held responsible. Seems like they need to learn some responsibility - have bad credit themselves, can't make payments, taking advantage of a minor, ruining your credit...and more. |

Did you apply for these yourself or did your parents get them for you? You cannot apply for yourself yet because of your age and what your parents did was credit card fraud and illegal if they used you to circumvent their credit rating! I would file a Identity theft alert on my credit report if your parents did this and call the police and file a charge against them. This will only hold up if they did this WITHOUT your permission! If you applied for these yourself and your parents cosigned for you then they are ultimately responsible anyway. Go to the website below. i know it's called Easy Credit Repair, but there is something here for every one. It necessaryt you get your credit life in order before you turn 18. Good luck! If my parents did this to me I would definitely have them thrown in jail!!!!! |
