Bank of America and Chase have great cards, but American Express has great privileges. Bank of America and Chase offer some cards with rewards and traveling miles. Bank of America has better customer service. It's best if you have a checking account with whom you choose to get a credit card because Bank of America only allows you to pay your bill through an checking account without a fee. Check by phone costs an extra $15. Chase does the same thing. The best credit cards are the one that say NO ANNUAL FEES. Most cards have an annual fee that hits your account each year on your anniversary date of when you open it. In addition to the NO ANNUAL FEES, there are some credit cards that state NO APR's for 3 months or 6 months. After that period of time goes by, credit card company's will take a look at your FICO score to see if it's in good standing then your APR will be at a lower percentage rate. if it's not in good standing then your APR will be high.
DO NOT OPEN MORE THAN ONE CREDIT CARD AT YOUR AGE because if you get behind even by one month, your APR with one card can effect the APR's of all the other cards and it gets uglier and uglier from there. Your credit will be shot. That late payment stays on your report for 7 years. It becomes a problem when you rent a place or even buy a place or buy a car. Credit checks are a regular routine for many companies and institutions.
Start with one card for now and pay the monthly payments on time and sometimes a little bit over the minimum payments on some months.
When using your credit card be careful how you use it. Make sure that you keep an eye on all your transactions. With identity theft being the fastest growing crime in America, you have to ALWAYS make sure you're information is safe. Get the protection plan that comes with the card to safeguard yourself from identity theft. Using credit card at hotels is better than debit because when you check out, money from incidentals goes immediately back on you credit card, but it takes up to 30 days to get back on your debit card.
It took me until 2 years ago to choose a great credit card and I'm in my late 20's. I went with Bank of America's World Points visa card.
Really give it some good thought and keep looking at the mailers that come in the mail.
READ THE SMALL PRINT!!!
good luck. |

If you go to college you can get a student credit card that will have some nice bells on it but if not you will get a crappy starters card with no bells.

It's never too early to start building a good credit rating. At your age, it might be a good idea to get a low credit limit to protect yourself from going overboard. You should also compare all the various aspects of each card you are interested in before you apply for one -- fees, interest rates, rewards, etc.

First of all credit cards have not become a necessity in todays world. That's a load of crap!
That's what banks want you to think. They make billions on people that worship the fico and borrow money to get a high fico so that they can borrow more money. Then they get in over their head and start paying late fees, over the limit fees and, high interest rates. It's a stupid game.
Pay as you go. Live on less than you make and you will have money.
The only time you might have to borrow money is for a home. You can do that without a fico score. It's called manual underwriting. It's not a sub prime loan. It's the way home loans where givin' before all the fico score worship. You can get the lowest rates available.
Debt free is definitely the way to be. |

I would try to get like a Discover with maybe a 500 limit. If not try like a JC Penneys. They accept anyone. Don't apply for to many, cause if you get denied than that goes on your report. |

Try getting a bank account with any good bank and then ask your bank for a credit card, having your money under the same bank will be a good reward.Be aware not to overspent or max out your card because it can cost you more |

Well if your still a teen I would recomend you at least wait to graduate ( if you haven't already )
Most friendly credit card company is Capital One but i personally don't like them and they have high APR's
My first card was through Chase and their APR was high but I did get rewards and that was cool.
In about a year in a high later I switched over to my bank's credit card offer and it was more than half the percentage of APR i was previously paying.
Everytime you Apply for a credit card and get denied it goes on your credit score, so if you keep getting denied give it a rest for a while ( 3 months or so ) and get back to it. |

After all, without a credit card, it's harder to live, and especially hard to shop online. Lots of credit card related questions are often being asked and yours is just another one. Credit cards are great to use as long as you control them-->They are useful, helpful, and make buying things a whole lot easier. But it's important to remember that people go into thousands of dollars of debt because of them, and the same thing could happen to you |
