Your defaulted student loan is going to be the biggest issue in life until that debt is paid. From personal experience, trust me! The will garnish your wages and take you tax rebates, if any. Now, the first thing you need to do is start paying that debt the best way possible. If they find out where you work it will not be long before the take your wages and there is nothing you can do about it.

If you don't have a job, then the debt will be there. It will follow you. Once that debt is paid, then you will need to ge a credit card. You would probably qualify for one of the bad credit -credit card with the high interest and the horrible fees. But, with that defaulted student loan you will not even qualify for that.

Step 1. Pay your newest debts first.. The older ones will fall off your credit in seven years. So the newer ones will harm your credit score the most.

Step 2. If you don't qualify for a credit card. Save up some money like $1,000 and get a C.D from your local bank. Then borrower against it. They will use the CD as being a secured loan with guaranteed approval but, when you borrow against it and make monthly payments to pay back the money borrowed the bank will report it to the credit agencies and it will help your score.

Step 3. Then apply for a credit card. By this time your score should be were you could qualify for a $300- $1000 credit limit. Or maybe your bank will give you a credit card if you keep your CD.

See more on rebuilding your credit below! Good luck!

The BEST immediate thing to do is start paying your bills on time. Then get your credit limits lower if you have outstanding debt, like any credit cards or car payments. The first thing you really need to do in YOUR situation is get your student loan either re-aged (call the company or the agency who loaned it) to bring it current. Then start paying it on time. If it's federal, they can garnish your wages, take tax refunds, and it can stay on your report for 15 years. When you pay on time and start digging out of the hole, your score will gradually edge up. You might opt for a secured credit card first, which you pay a deposit equal to the credit limit, and when you pay on time over several months, they will refund the deposit to you and it will be unsecured. Credit reports do not show secured status, and it makes no difference to creditors.

Get back on schedule with the student loan.

Repay the bank for the overdraft.

Keep current on the student loan. Then the problems will recede into old history and not be very important and eventually fall off your report.

It will be hard for you to build your credit up really fast but you can do it gradually with careful money management. You cannot keep on defaulting and expect to get your credit score up so first of all, pay all your outstanding bills. This article below will be very helpful to you. Good luck!

Credit score is like health - most people don't think about it until it becomes a problem. Just as the current state of your health mirrors the health habits you have followed over a longer period of time, so your credit score reflects your credit history. It means that building a high credit score takes time (although there are some shortcuts) and maintaining it is a continuous process. In this article, you'll find 5 ways to increase credit score and ensure you get good interest rates whenever you need credit. Before talking about the details on how to increase credit score, there are some basics you need to know. Credit score, or FICO score (the most commonly used credit score, created by the Fair Isaac Corp.), is a number ranging from 300 to 850 which is calculated with a mathematical model, using the information in your credit report. The number shows the lender the likelihood of you paying back the loan on time. The higher the score, the less risky it is for the lender to give you a loan and the better interest rate you are offered. If your credit score is 700 and above, you’re likely to get the best interest rates available.

A bad credit score not only may cost you thousands of dollars in high interest rates – if your credit score is in a really bad shape (e.g. below 500), you may not qualify for a loan at all.To sum up – in order to get credit and good interest rates, you need to have a high credit score! Below you can read 5 important tips on how to increase credit score and keep it high. That’s the first advice you’ll get when you’re looking for ways to increase credit score. This tip seems really simple and obvious, but still many people underestimate its importance. What lenders want to know the most is if and how timely you have paid your bills in the past. That’s why 35% of the credit score is based on your credit history. Delinquent payments and collections can severely damage your score. The more recent your payment problems are, the worse. So, in order to increase your credit score, start paying bills on time right now, and your score may already be higher after a month.

You said it: you've screwed everything up. Try to get a secured credit card and exhibit responsible behavior with that. Next, see if you can find a bank that offers "second chance" accounts to chexsystem people. Exhibit responsible behavior with that.

There is no "ASAP." It's a long, slow road back from ruined credit.

Take out a secured credit card and make the minimum payments every single month for a long time.

You need to show you can make payments on time. So you need to open some things and make the payments.
