Have you tried for a Gas card? Those are relatively easy to get. If not, probably the only way to establish your credit would be to get a Secured credit card. With these you'll need to supply money to the card before you use it. For most of them you can supply as low as $50 and as much as you want. You can then use the card and pay back the money you spent. Just remember that what you put down is your credit limit. Don't spend more than you have.
Do this long enough and you can establish enough credit to apply for a storecard (like Sears, Target or Walmart) or a Gas card (BP, SuperAmerica or ExxonMobile).
Unfortunately a Debit card will not do anything to your credit. When you use a Debit card it takes from money you already had so there is no balance built up as it is with a credit card. There have been reports of your checking account affecting your credit but as of yet this hasn't happened.
The best way to build credit is to always pay more than the minimum balance and to pay before your card receives its finance charge. That way you'll have less to payback. Also, try to keep a balance on your card, just keep it less that 30% of your credit limit. This shows you have and can handle credit.
Good Luck : ) |

Please note that rent, utilities and phone bills do not help your score, since those companies do not report payments to the credit bureaus unless you are making late payments or default.
I don't know why you are afraid of bank loans, as they look great on your score. If you can show you are employed they will give you a small loan. That will get you started.
Also consider having someone co-sign a loan for you. |

Do you have a phone in your name? Telephone and utility bills do build positive credit if paid on time. Additionally, if you have any savings at all, you can get a secured MC or Visa through lendingtree.com.
For example, if you deposit $250 into a bank account they will issue a credit card to you; the card will have a $250 limit. Then use the card for groceries or some other small item and pay the bill on time. Do this for 6 months and you will qualify for an unsecure card with a higher limit.
Good luck. |

Get a debit card. You won't have 30 days to pay things off...you'll only have your money in your bank account, but you'll learn to budget! |

First of all don't be discouraged that your sister has been "approved", credit card companies like to approve people they know can't pay so they can charge large interest rates and huge fees.
Second, everyone else is right that if you rent an apartment, own or lease a car, pay utilities, etc you are building credit. You need to make sure that your credit has not been damaged by identity fraud (it happens more than you think) so check your credit reports with all three agencies. Be sure to dispute anything that looks wrong.
Also, you need to understand how to build your credit score, you do this by paying your cards on time (believe it or not you get no score boost by paying the card off, just for paying the minimum on time) and make sure no credit card you have ever goes over 50% of your credit limit, this drops your score. Sadly, you may be hurting your credit by applying for so many cards, the more times a company runs your credit the lower your score goes. So make sure you do not apply more than 6 times a year for anything that requires a credit check. Good luck! |

You can always try for a secured account or have a co-signer. If you have an extra couple hundred dollars go to a bank and ask for a secured credit card. That just means they have collateral incase you default on the payments OR if your sister is in good standing with her cards perhaps she can co-sign on an account for you. Try those 2 options. |

Do you rent? Do you pay utility bills? Do you own a cell phone? These are ways that a lot of people establish credit. Also check your credit report at least once a year to make sure that you are only being turned down because you have no credit. If you are in the U.S., the Official site to get your free report is https://www.annualcreditreport.com .
Secondly please beware if you do get a credit card. Only charge what you know you can pay off in 1-2 months. And keep your available balances low, as too much open credit can also be a bad thing. |

I started establishing my credit with a small credit card from Capital One. I got the card a month after my 18th birthday, it was my first piece of credit. It had a $300 limit. I used it very carefully and paid it off quickly. You should check out their website, they have a little quiz that'll help you determine the best card for you.
It also helps if you have a decent income. If you don't make much and have a lot of financial oblications, you won't get approved...even for a small card.
And the person who stated that a banking Visa check card counts as credit, is wrong. They check your credit before offering you one, but it doesn't improve your credit to be given one. |

Go to the bank and opening a checking account. They give you a debit card, usually with a VISA logo on it. THIS COUNTS AS GETTING A CREDIT CARD. It WILL affect your credit. It's the easiest and safest way to start getting credit. |
