shaolinotter | How can I fix my credit!? |
A few years back i was a victim of identity theft and unkowingly racked up a few grand in credit card bills. The problem is the thief was a relative so i didnt press charges. I have always paid my rent and bills on time but i cant get a credit card or a cell phone now. Is there any hope? |

that really stinks to know a relative would do that. i wouldnt have been as nice as you. i would have pressed charges right away. unfortunatly, since you didnt there is nothing you can do but pay off the debt and wait until it clears up. you can however call the companies and explain the situation. they have programs that can help. i would avoid debt management companies unless you do some homework on them. lots of scams out there. |

I don't think you have any choice other than paying the bills, even if they aren't yours. If you would have pressed charges, maybe you could have sued them for the money owed but it's too late now. Since you didn't want them to pay, you will need to. Sorry your out of luck until it's paid off and you rebuild your credit. |

I am sorry, but if a family member stole my credit, they would be turned in to the authorities so fast.
I ain't gonna co-sign bad behavior. PERIOD!
Stealing my identity and racking up THOUSANDS of dollars in credit card bills is analogous to grand larceny in my book. I refuse to shield my relatives from the arm of the law when they commit crimes of this magnitude.
Furthermore, you are experiencing double jeopardy since you refuse to press charges. You were victimized from the identity theft and are still suffering from the aftermath of not pressing charges against the relative.
Family loyalty can only go so far. If someone is willing to ruin my life for a few thousand dollars, then I refuse to endure years of credit hell to protect that person from the law.
I refuse to make my viewpoint complicated. |

Did you notify the credit reporting agencies? You can write them a letter explaining what happened and they will post it on your account. Keep paying on time and the bad credit will eventually be removed from your report. |

Did you contact your credit card companies to make arrangements for payment or to see if they would work with you and perhaps reduce the amount owed? Many of them will work with you. Call them.
Make sure you keep up with whatever agreement you come to. |

You have to clear your name otherwise you can't get a credit card or somethings like mobile phone and ect.Even though if that's you're relative if that is only the answer to press charges in order to clear your name.Probably the bank or the financial institution will grant you to get some credit card or some of money loan. |
