You can't. At least, not legally in his own name. (He may in some circumstances be able to be authorized to use one of your cards, but not have a card in his own name as primary accountholder.)
A person has to be 18 to enter into a legally binding contract, which is essentially what a credit card agreement is.
Why in the world would you WANT to get a 10 year old a credit card? Far better to teach him to live within his means, so that he doesn't fall into the debt trap that so many people get stuck in. |

Why do you need a credit card for a 10 year old is the real question here. Don't get your son caught up in the cycle of credit card debt. Instead teach him about saving or investing money. |

Why? I'm sure there are ways to get a credit card for a child -- my kids get offers in the mail for them and I just throw them away -- but, I don't know how to actually get one. Is this so you can extend your credit by using his name? why else would you want a child to have a credit card? It's not like a credit card is a good thing for someone to have. It is just a way of going into debt. |

You might try getting him a prepaid debit card, loaded with a certain amount of money and you can always load more. See your bank. Even if you got a card for him, he may have trouble using it as merchants would think it is not his and he probably doesnt have ID to match to the card. |

He dont need a credit card. You should teach him to spend responsibly. He looks up to you for guidance and you are steering him into a road of debt.
You should be asking
"How can I start a savings account for my son, He is 10?" |

By law your son should be 18 before he can get a credit card. If you are looking to clean up your credit do so dont use your child. |

What a stupid idea. Do you really want to ruin his financial future before he's even a teen? There's simply no reason a ten year old would need a credit card, unless, perhaps, the parents a looking to use it for themselves. |

I agree with poster "bookkeeper".
But what I want to know is why someone would want to give a 10 year old a credit card? Why not just flush your wallet in the toilet?! |

wow...I'm not really one to judge but I bet he already has a cell phone...I was spoiled as a child everything was given to me and when I first started off in the real life...I was not prepared...it took me 3 years to get my responsibilty together. my best advice is to not spoil. |

Call one of your existing credit cards and ask for an additional card, they will ask what name and just put your sons name...I think thats the only way...but be careful..cause if he misuses the card, even though its in his name it will mess up the account, which is in YOUR name. |

You may be able to add him as an authorized user on one of your credit cards if the credit card company allows it, but he contractually unable to obligate to a debt as he is a minor. |

Valencia,
I doubt that you could legally get one for him. If there are certain things you want him to be able to charge from certain stores, then you might ask them to let him pay with your card, but make sure they know what you want and what you don't want the card used for. |
