The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) requires that U.S. consumers be entitled to a free credit report each year. The government’s goal is to make sure that consumers stay informed, fight identity theft, and get fair treatment. This is the government mandated website where you can get 1 free credit report from the 3 agencies for free in one year:

Every site I have tried for a "free" credit report is not free. If you have credit cards, pay off low amounts first, not high interest ones. Don't be late!!!! Don't miss a payment!!! Your interest is automatically raised to 30%, according to experst on Oprah yesterday. Check with your bank or credit union to see if they can get a free copy of credit report. Know also that each time a credit report is requested, two points go against your credit report. The Oprah link is The Debt Diet. |

I am not completely convinced that freecredit.com is paying people to post their name here!
You guys are morons! CUT IT OUT!
www.annualcreditreport.com is the ONLY site that gives you free credit reports without any games, catchs, fees, or anything.
This site was set up specifically to address the new law requiring free access to credit reports, and is run by the 3 major credit bureaus. It's easy to use.
Freecredit.com is a leach company taking advantage of consumers. |

Apply for credit, and when you're denied, you can call the number on the denial letter and get a free copy of your report in the mail. |

The three main reporting agencies are: Trans Union, Equifax & Experian. Their web addresses are below.
#1 You are entitled to a free copy of your credit report once per year. All you have to do is write a letter to each agency & request one.
#2 There are companies that will offer a 3 in 1 report (from all 3 agencies)for free. A couple are:
http://www.annualcreditreport.com
http://www.freecreditreport.com
#3 Anytime that you are denied a loan, you should receive a letter from the lender stating their reasons for denial. If that reason includes negative information contained in your credit report (it usually does), then the reporting agency will be listed as the providing source. They MUST provide you with a free copy of your report. Send them a copy of your denial letter & request a copy of your report. They must do this anytime you are denied credit.
Then their is FICO. To understand what makes up your score, & to get a free score go to: http://www.myfico.com/CreditEducation/?fire=1. |

There are a lot of idiots posting on this board!
The ONLY place you can get all 3 credit reports for free is www.annualcreditreport.com. You can get a copy once every 12 months. It will NOT hurt your credit score. This website is maintained by all three credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian & TransUnion) and was set up to comply with a law passed in 2004 (FACTA) that mandated free consumer access to credit reports.
Review your credit reports for accuracy. If there are any items that you believe to be incorrect then you can dispute them. Each investigation will take approx. 30 days.
Go to www.myfico.com and look in the Credit Education section to learn about credit scoring.
Good Luck |
